And how did you react to them?

The first gay person I met was a friend of an older relative, who I met when I was about 9. I thought he was a nice guy, but I never understood why my parents and other relatives never wanted me to walk or talk like him, or why they never wanted to ask who that other guy was in a picture of him. I thought the photo was perfectly natural, though I didn't know why.

The first person I met was my landlord! He was a really nice guy and we got along really well and one day I walked in on him when he was watching gay porn. A very embarrassing situation resulted - but all was forgiven.

The first LGBT person I met was a girl who I met on a work tour abroad. I did not know she was a lesbian when we met. Afterwards when I checked one of her social media page, i came to know that she is in a relationship with another girl:newcolor:. I never saw her again. That was it.:icon_redf

In eighth grade one of my friends told me a mutual friend was gay. At the time, I didn't fully understand the disrespectfulness of outing someone, but thankfully I didn't tell anyone. He's a cool dude, we still talk every once in a while.

This one's slightly different to the ones so far, but the LGBT person I knew existed was Adam Lambert. I was a huge fan of his when I was about 9 years old, and I used to watch Youtube clips of his songs and one time I was ranting to my mum because so many people in the comments were saying that he was gay, and I thought that it was an insult because of the context they were saying it in. I was saying to my mum: "It's so annoying, because there's all these people saying he's gay...for no reason! He's not and it's not fair!"

And then my mum said: "I'm sorry to say this if it makes you upset, but he is..." and I burst into tears. Because of all the comments calling him gay and people saying 'so what if he's gay' I thought that being gay was something absolutely terrible.

It didn't occur to me to ask what being gay actually meant until I'd calmed down a bit and then when my mum told me I just said, "Oh...that isn't so bad..." The whole incident is absolutely hilarious to me in hindsight.

The first gay person I knew irl was my primary school music teacher, but I didn't find out he was gay until a few weeks ago. He's a lovely man and a great teacher and knowing he's gay doesn't change how I see him.

A boy I knew when we were both 2. How did I react when I found out he was gay 15 years later? ''Oh, I thought N was his girlfriend?'' to which the response was ''no, they're just very close friends''.

Haven't seen him in ages; we live on different continents.

My family has an insane amount of gay people compared to others, so I've pretty much known gay people my whole life; mostly cousins. The first thing I remember is at one of my family reunions my cousin brought his boyfriend and he was pretty cool.

Probably my godfather? I don't have many memories of him, and didn't find out until later. In school, there were rumors, and some kids obviously stood out. Then you had those "leather bar" scenes on shows like The Simpsons, which seemed a world away.

My mums best friend from college who is gay. she travels around doing odd jobs like being a body guard and picking fruit. I thought she was cool until I found out she was transphobic though
Actually no, the first person was my best friend in primary school. I guess I'd say he's always been pretty obviously gay, but I never realised or new the word for it. We were both extremely weird and inseparable and I think I crushed on him for a long time. But he moved down a year from me and we fell out and now I only see him awkwardly and occasionally. In intermediate he must of come out because everyone was talking about him and saying he was gay and I was upset because I thought that was a bad thing. He's still cool though and I think he's pretty inspiring and amazing.

Well all at the same time I knew 2 girls and 1 guy from school. One of the girls was Bi, another was Lesbian and they were together. The guy was Gay but he changed his orientation from Gay to Bi back and forth which bothered me a whole lot but he moved.

I guess it's twofold depending on how you look at it.

I don't count those who came"out" as lesbian or bi in school because they wanted attention. I don't think any of them were.

The first one I thought was gay and find out later was a guy in school I was sure was gay, by he denied, so I didn't question it. Later after school, he's with a great guy and having a great life.

The first openly gay person was a co-worker whim I had to be informed was gay. He can be odd,, buy he never struck me as different. His gayness didn't effect how I treated him and I think that helped me in the long run.

A childhood friend of mine was the first gay person I knew, but at the time I didn't know he was gay and he didn't come out to the world till 8th grade.

But if you meant first openly gay person then it was my cousin and his husband who moved in next door. Totally fine with them. They paid me to help clear out the over grown woods in their backyard so that they could put in a garden and koi pond. (I was 10 so wasn't like I did much) They also had a very impressive study with three walls covered from floor to ceiling with books. I really enjoyed their company.
My grandmother, on the other hand, acted like she liked thdm but in private she told me and my bros that if we came out as gay she'd disown us.

My best friend. We'd known each other since Year 7 (we're in Year 10 now) and in Year 8 he told me he was bisexual at the time, but turns out he was gay (he told me later). My reaction was just "Oh, okay. Cool."

A guy my parents worked with when I was maybe 9ish. I didn't know him well, and didn't know myself at all. He came over to dinner once, and seemed nice. I'd have said he was introduced to me just like anyone else, and he *seemed* like anyone else...except that somehow by someone in some context I was told he was gay. Like why did I need to know that?

There was a transguy in one of my classes last year (as in, the school-year that just ended 2 days ago). I just listened to his conversations with people and knew that he was at the GSA club at my school so I had my suspicion. He's the biggest extrovert ever and keeps talking about his Twitter and YT accounts so one day I decided to check and see if he posted anything about his gender or sexuality on there and he sure did.
My reaction wasn't too big 'cause I was already pretty sure he was but I did get a great feeling of not being alone.

Come to think of it, it should probably be mentioned that my mother was addicted to Richard Simmons dance tapes, and I can still remember waking up on Saturday mornings to those old school tracks... not sure if he's officially come out or not.

The first openly LGBT+ person I knew was a woman I went on a blind date with back in 2001. I met her through the internet. It didn't work out.
