Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by Browncoat, Jun 9, 2016.

?

Would you be more likely to vote for Clinton if...?

  1. I would be more likely to vote for Clinton if she had Sanders as VP.

    42.4%
  2. I would be more likely to vote for Clinton if she had Warren as VP.

    11.9%
  3. I was going to vote for Clinton regardless of her VP choice.

    23.7%
  4. I would normally vote Democrat, but I would never vote for Clinton.

    16.9%
  5. I was never going to vote for the Democrats anyway.

    15.3%
Multiple votes are allowed.

So, randomly have the news on in the background this morning, and the commentators are suggesting that Clinton should pick Sanders in order to bring the "Bernie or Bust" people over to her in the general election.

So, knowing there are many Bernie supporters on here, my question - would this make it more likely for you to vote for Clinton in the general election?

A similar proposition made was to bring Elizabeth Warren on as VP, assuming that people who like Sanders would be equally inclined to like her. If you didn't want to vote for Clinton before, would this make it more likely for you to vote for her?

I'll admit, as someone who is thinking I'll either vote Socialist or write in Sanders, it would make me think of potentially voting for Clinton. I don't think Sanders would ever agree to it though.

No simple "not voting for Clinton" option if you aren't strictly against the democrats? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I'd vote for Clinton 'cause she's not Trump.
Not that I'm voting 'cause I'm too young and not registered. Most of the choices this year (especially on the Republican side) were just so bad that I think more about who I don't want for President than who I actually like.

Hmm, that's a good point... if it's not too much trouble, could a mod add the option "I would normally vote Democrat, but I would never vote for Clinton."?

I'd vote for her because Trump would be worse than her, but Bernie really should of been President.

And I'm not choosing any of the answers in poll because I don't like any of them.

Yeah, my answer is that Democrat is the way to go, but even if I could vote, there's no way in hell I'd vote for a Clinton...

If I am not mistaken, VPs have absolutely nothing of any importance to do while in office, they are even less than the Secretary of State. I don't think it would work.

It is such a depressing situation that, given both of Clinton's and Drumpf's record high unfavourables, the only reason to vote for either of them is to prevent the other side from winning. Forget about vision, platform, or anything of substance...it is all based on fear.

Not American, but I think it's going to be very interesting to see who's your next President.
I really hoped Bernie would get in, I think him and Trudeau would get a lot done, or if Obama had another term in office.

I'm not exactly opposed to Hillary if she were to bring change that would actually level the economic playing field for Americans. But if she were to make Sanders her VP or Secretary of State (if she's feeling like pulling off a 2008 move), I'd definitely vote for her.

But either way I still feel like Bernie would've made a much better president in terms of reform.

    Yeah.

I guess I missed the headlines or something, if everybody is saying Bernie 'should have' been president?

But after Bernie, my next choice would be Hillary. I'd vote for her (rather than Trump) in a heartbeat.

I may just write in Bernie Sanders. I'm too old for strategic voting, since these parties are creating the false choices in the first place. This is kind of like telling the suicide bomber, "Yeah, just go ahead and push that button."

What I will do after the election is this: I'm voting for, and participating in, Black Lives Matter, Anonymous, and Occupy (Everything). Whoever wins the presidential election is going to wish the other person had won, because unless the fixing of the system is changed, the protests will look like 1968.

And don't forget there is a Congressional election this year. When you vote in that election, ask yourself what your candidates stand for. And please, if you are under 40, consider running for office, please! As a Baby Boomer, there isn't anything I'd like to do better than to vote my generation out of office, replacing them with younger people with new ideas.

Yeah, I'm old. I realize my position may be controversial, but the reason we end up having these choices is not a coincidence.

I'm not sure how any of this works but I'm sure there is still a month to go before anything is known for sure

Unfortunately, I'm starting to get the feeling that the only thing Bernie is doing by continuing to stay in the race is making a Trump presidency more likely. A lot of Bernie supporters are either not going to vote or are going to vote for Trump and I simply do not believe a Trump presidency will be better than [another] Clinton one. It would be the worst thing the country could get at this point. A Clinton presidency will be underwhelming, but it will not be the possible disaster a Trump one could be.

I voted for Bernie in the Nevada primary, but his stubbornness is starting to annoy me. That's not to say that he needs to now kiss Clinton's ass, but the Democrats need to unite against Trump, not continue to stay divided.

I was a huge Bernie supporter but let's face it- not gonna happen, Clinton's going to get the nomination. What Sanders needs to do is come around and support her. I mean, if anything, he made Clinton a better candidate- forced her to lean more left and reach out to younger voters.

I'd actually hope Clinton would consider Sanders as VP. Sanders will never be able to run for President again. VP's the closest he'll get. And having a Clinton/Sanders ticket- that'll at least encourage some of the Bernie or Bust guys to reconsider.

I mean, you know what they say about a divided house. I can't afford to be Bernie or Bust. A Trump presidency... I can't let my community, my sisters, my friends live in a country like that.

Personally I'm still putting my money on Clinton picking one of Virginia's US Senators: Tim Kaine or Mark Warner. VP choices generally are for mere psychological or geographical reasons: to ideologically balance a ticket (John McCain the moderate and Sarah Palin the whacko conservative), to geographically balance a ticket (John Kerry from Massachusetts and John Edwards from North Carolina), to get a candidate from a must-win swing state (Mitt Romney from Massachusetts and Paul Ryan from Wisconsin), some just come straight out of left field (Bob Dole from Kansas and Jack Kemp, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from California), and some are just seen as Hail Mary choices as a last-ditch effort in a drowning campaign (Walter Mondale choosing Geraldine Ferarro in 1984).

I think she'll go with Kaine or Warner for a couple reasons. One, the most obvious being that it's Virginia, a swing state. Two, it's one of the few swing states that has a Democratic Governor, who'd appoint a Democratic successor to the Senate. Third, both have strong backgrounds to run on. They're both former Governors of Virginia, and Kaine was the chair of the DNC from 2009-2011. Warner is a self-made businessman whose first office was Governor from 2002-2006 and then in the US Senate from 2009 to the present. With those two choices, I'd go with Tim Kaine.

Personally, I'd much rather see Al Gore come out of retirement so I can have a CLINTON/GORE yard sign just like my parents did in 1992.

At this point, I have no idea what I'm going to do in regards to the election. For the time being, I'll watch to see what goes on between everyone until november and then I'll decide whether i'll vote or not. Her making Bernie a VP could sway that but it depends entirely on how things go up until november.

And when you think about the whole deal with Nader back in 2000 costing Gore the election, it'd be so poetic with the whole Sanders thing.
