in enlightenment of the horrible mass shootings, should gay pride be cancelled?

    Positives of a cancellation:
    -Ensures people's safety

    Negatives of a cancellation:
-The anti-LGBT community wins by spreading fear

Just a topic of opinions. What do you think? Are you reconsidering going to the event?

We should not change how we live out lives because of terrorists. If we show them they have any influence on our lives, we show them we fear them. If we show them we fear them, then they win.

So to answer your question: No.

No, it should not be cancelled. In fact, it's needed now more than ever.

Yes, there are some risks, but the LGBT community needs to be bold in the face of those who want to cut them down.

If you cancel it then you are only given them what they want.

Can we continue to be proud of who we are? Damn right we can. Straight people have been killing us for a long, long time, but here we all are, still pushing to make the world more accepting. I don't think the victims would want the community to be defeated like this. I believe they'd want us to stand together and do our best to ensure that something like this never happens again.

Yes because they won't win. We have to fight back and become stronger than ever. Nothing can break us down.

I just went to my first PRIDE parade and it was a great time. I live in a more open country and people are a bit more accepting for the most part, but I don't believe we as a human race should stop something because of people's hatred. In fact, I believe because of people's hatred, in this instance, there is more attention and the love has been flowing in from all parts of the world because of Orlando. Yes, people may be safer, but who wants to hide forever?

Of course it should continue. If anything, the tragedy that occurred highlights the need for pride, the need to be obviously defiant of this hatred. It also gives our community the chance to come together and support each other. This doesn't mean precautions shouldn't be taken. My local pride organization, for example, has already stated that they will have increased security at their festival this year. I also don't begrudge anyone who is planning not to attend a pride event because of what happened. This stuff is scary. However, it shouldn't be used as an excuse to cancel celebrations for those who still want to participate.

Let me just add that the events in Orlando now make me want to really go to the Chicago gay pride parade in 2 weeks. I will try to get as many friends I can get as well. I went last year and it was fun. This year I was just unsure, but now I'm more sure than ever that I want to go back.

It was sort of a "maybe" for me going to SF Pride this year, but now I want to go more as well. Even though I'll be going as straight. It'll still be fun, though.

Never, ever, ever give in to this sort of thing. Make it the biggest, boldest and bravest Pride ever seen. Terrorism will only be defeated if we are not terrorised.

I refuse to live the rest of my life hiding in the closet because there are people out there who hate us. I think that's the attitude we should all have.

Why would we spit upon the memories of the fallen by being cowed?

Nope, deff should not be canceled, if anything more people should go.

With the PrideFest that I may go to next weekend, they've already said it will go on, but there will be increased security including metal detectors at the gates.
The increased security will probably be a bit annoying, but sadly its needed, long gone are the days when you could just walk into these large events, no fences or gates or security etc.

Many non-White people were killed during segregation but they achieved equality and pride...

We can too :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: If we don't, they win

Plus it can be a bit of a memorial too

"Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take a chance?
    The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the songs of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
    When tomorrow comes!"

If we cancel pride, we dishonour the memories of the thousands of LGBT+ people who have died purely because they were not straight and cisgender. The only way to end homophobia is to keep pushing forward until we win.

We can't give in. We need to show the primitive bigots that love will always win.

Pride needs to continue. If we cower because of their violence and the fear it generates, they have won. For strength, remember the Queer Nation chant “We're here! We’re Queer! Get used to it!” We must be strong and proud like our LGBT brothers and sisters before us :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:ride:

NO! We need it more than ever now! Like I said before, we need to be louder, we need to be taller, we need to be queerer.

I really wish I could sneak off to NC Pride in September, but there is NO WAY I could get THAT around my mom. Not even I can cook up a lie that good.
