Who's celebrating this, or doing something to mark the day? (fund raising, etc).

Our school has banned anything to do with Red Nose day because, in their words, "They support abortion".

    Yep, Catholic school. Sucks.

Red Nose DAY or Comic Relief is like a national charity event held in the UK. Its this Friday. This year they are encouraging everyone to do something funny for money. All the money raised goes to Africa and the UK for people who really need it. They have a whole evening of televised funny stuff on the BBC which goes on till early hours.

My school is celebrating it next Friday instead because the 13th of March is the date of a very high profile school shooting that happened in my town about 12 or 13 years ago. (and now you all know where I live :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:). It should be fun though, I don't know what I'm going to do yet...

Interesting, I was thinking it was like a Rudolf the Reindeer celebration

It's a big charity TV event, annually running. It does general anti-poverty stuff. However, they've been known to support freedom to have abortions (like, when women have been raped, or whatever reason why they want the abortion) in these third world nations, and Ty's school dislikes that.

i always thought red nose day was on behalf of SIDS (sudden infent death sydnrome)

and i would assume that the abortion thing would be - if there is more money raised, parents could find out that there children have this before birth, and get an abort..

i never knew it was a tv thing....

I don't think SIDS can be predicted, coz it's sudden but I'm not too sure...

I also thought that's what red nose day was about. Maybe it's an Australian thing.

She might do, she works on X Factor which is Simon Cowell's music talent show over here. Like American Idol tbh, although they're both based on a show called Pop Idol over here from a while back. She's apparently very good, so maybe Simon might decide to bring her along next time. The weird thing is, she got into her girl band through a TV talent show herself.

Anyone want to explain why it's called "Red Nose" Day?

It's called Red Nose Day because every year Comic Relief (the charity behind this) sells "red noses" across the country. The red noses look like this:

Some people raise money for the charity (usually whilst wearing red noses)
This year, some celebrities climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Comic Relief.

My school, as usual, is being STUBBORN and not allowing us to wear red noses, so today we all painted our noses red

We dressed up as chavs in my workplace for RND. And we organised games and quizzes too. Was all good fun.
