Well, if you haven't seen this story, a mostly liberal news online rag unscrupulous dbag writer decided he would trick and our Olympians, and while they're in a dangerous place to boot. Here's the initial article then a follow up, http://www.thewrap.com/daily-beast-******-gay-olympic-athletes/ http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_t..._******_stunt_is_dangerous_and_unethical.html Yeah, they published an apology but that's not enough, the writer needs to be fired and then some. Sorry if this was already posted elsewhere.
Unbelievably irresponsible "reporting"! The writer was either completely ignorant of the danger he was putting these people under, or he was aware and didn't care. Blame goes to the editor(s) as well, they at least should have known better, or they didn't care either. I will not click on any Daily Beast articles, nor will I share any of their links. If enough of us do this, our point will have been made.
Removing the article doesn't remove the damage they have already done. They should be incredibly ashamed for having one of their "reporters" do a piece that involved doing something like this. Sad they thought they had to resort to producing an article like that to get a "popular" story.
Wow, I saw this article on facebook but never actually looked into it. Writing and publishing that story was an outright terrible move on their part. It may not fix the damage that's been done but at least the article has been removed.
So the pages doesn't seem to exist anymore, and I don't really understand what this thread is about. Was something said about an Olympian? Sorry for being clueless here, but if some could explain then that'd certainly be appreciated. :icon_redf
As far as I understand it, people were directly outed as part of this moron's effort to get a good story. This should be actionable under U.S. law, even if they were physically out of the country.
I've read about this and I thought this was a really crude thing for someone to do in order to gain media attention. I think people should be able to come out on their own accord, not forced to do so and what this guy did, I don't even know how he could lay down and sleep at night without his conscience bothering him.
If a sexual minority person lives in a country that represses or punishes homosexuality, it seems ludicrous for them to use Wall Street's social media hookup apps to find people. This just ends up exploited by Wall Street's media empire. My advice to people whose lives are at stake is to stay away from the U.S. tech industry. It collaborates with repressive governments.
