Was looking at a list famous people who LGB (sad i know) and it got me thinking: Who are you're LGBT role models? They can be famous or just somone you know. I think we should have a place to celebrate these people, for all they have done for us. Also how important do you find LGBT role models? My personal role model would be my close friend who helped me during my coming out. I really like the way he is so confident about his sexuality and just to know that he looks out for me, helping me with any mistakes i have made or one which i will make (theres probably gonna be a lot) Now its your turn
John Barrowman. He. Is. AMAZING. He is a singer and an actor, in my favorite tv show AND broadway, so he is an idol in that respect alone. But hes also openly gay and with the same man for nearly 18 years.
My friend Iona is my role model.. she is supportive, caring and proud of who she is. She's great! And I sadly missed her Civil Partnership cos I was in the USA
awwww i wanted john mmm captain jack hehe *cough* i mean yea i vote for john barrowman hes a great role model *** thinks of john barrowman and david tennant*** sorry doing it again hehe
I'm gonna be the first to say: Ellen DeGeneres and Portia DeRossi. I know it's obvious, but they're worth it. I love them. Aaaalso, my mom. She's awesome. ^.^
First and foremost, Jeffree star - More than anyone he reached me at a time when I hated Myself, not for being gay, but just in general about everything. He really made it clear that you can be whoever you want to be and being yourself is ok, and you should never make any apologies for it. At the end of the day you are the only one who truly matters, so make yourself happy above all else. Amanda Lepore - Not the most conventional role model, but one to me none the less. I applaud bravery and courage, and this woman has endless, endless ammounts of both.
Do you want to be her, or do you want to be with her, that is the question... But I agree. Her, and Ellen (OF COURSE), and Rachel Maddow.
I just finished watching "Ellen DeGeneres The Real Ellen Story" and befire she was my role model but after that...it confirmed why shes my role model. SHE IS MY HERO!! I love her! XD
Ellen is just fuck awesome. I don't know anyone who disagrees. She's just so genuine and perfectly funny and amazing and yet indescribable at the same time. If I could grow up to be exactly like her, I certainly wouldn't be complaining. EDIT: And I agree aboot your mom. But not just your mom. Any mom who can embrace their gay child for who they are has my respect and love (including my own mother )
the person in the mirror every morning when I brush my teeth. sounds conceited, but I look at myself and feel happy that I finally am able to be more open about myself. Seeing myself in the mirror reminds me that though I may not be drop dead sexy, and I am far from perfect, that I get up each day and just keep moving forward; keeping daring to dream; keep trying, even when people are trying to stack things up against me to keep me down. As for other people, Ellen of course. She is a positive force in my mind for the LBGT community. she is who she is, and she is not ashamed about it, but she shows that just because a person is gay, doesnt mean they are really deep down less of a human being, and ultimately all that different then everyone else. She isnt in your face about who she is, but she wont shy away from it.
Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Ellen DeGeneres, Ian McKellen, Harvey Milk to name a few... And of course every out-of-the-closet GLBT person for without their personal stories I would probably not have had the encouragement to come out.
