Because of a certain orange man, Americans have been threatening to move to Canada. I want to know what they really think of the north???(!)

It would be too cold for me to live there, at least in most places. My canadian friends have complained of heat in what I would consider to be freezing!

Otherwise, I really like how most of it sounds, judging by the stories my friends have told. The health care seems a lot better too.

One of the books I'm writing takes place in Canada, so even if I never get to go, hopefully my research will at least let me imagine it.

I'd be a liar if I said I didn't consider moving to Canada because of this orange genital wart you speak of.
I've only been to Canada once, but it was recent and I really enjoyed my time there.
It seems a lot like the US really. I'm hoping to visit Toronto next month.
I wouldn't really move though. I like the US.

I've done research on it's legal system for about five to seven years, needless to say I've never been impressed by the way the US handles things. As for Canada, I feel it's a more efficient system, with nicer people, and colder weather. Violence and hate speech are drastically reduced to tolerable levels. Think the US, but functional.

The Westboro Baptist church is banned from entry. When I realized that wasn't a joke it fairly well summed up my satisfaction with the country. It's a mostly secular nation, like the US was meant to be but never was. Here there's a church on every street and you are looked down upon and distrusted for being an atheist and banned from several public offices. You have to unconstitutionally swear in on their holy book for legal matters. If you don't believe in their archaic texts you will have trouble finding employment and much less if you're gay, they'll do everything in their power to stand against you.

Up there, it's a lot closer to a truly free yet functional society. You won't end up on the street just for being gay or atheist or thinking terrorist watch list members don't need assault rifles. I've heard of problems of course as nothing is without it's imperfections, but I would gladly swim through a sea of those to escape the issues here.

Heck, even the currency agrees with me.

I would move to Canada if the key people in my life did. If that orange sociopath becomes president, it would be tempting. He will make our country less safe, not more, by radicalizing people with his hate and pissing everyone in the world off. I HATE him.

I've been seriously considering it for a while now. My overall impression of Canada is very positive. My partner lived there for 6 years and loved it, one of my best friends is Canadian (thanks to her Scott Pilgrim practically felt like something I'd lived), I grew up watching all those Canadian TV shows on Nick, I love Kids in the Hall, I can recognize Canadians by sound when they appear as Americans on my TV (Cigarette Smoking Man on X-Files, for example). It just seems like it was something that was meant to be in some strange way.

My vague impression, as I am not very experienced or educated in what Canada is actually like, is that Canada is a chill place (in more ways than one) and a bit more liberal/socialistic than America. From what I've seen, Canadians seem quite friendly and contented. And obsessed with maple trees, leaves, and syrup. Alright that last one was a joke.

America has it's ups and downs. Most of the time, I'm good with how things work here. But there is a lot of social tension surrounding certain regions and people groups, which gets kind of crazy. Sometimes I wish Americans were a little more laid back about things, not always so busy and loud. Learn how to take a deep breath and have a cuppa, you know?

Also, I think the cities and landscapes in Canada would be awesome to visit.

I think it'd be a nice place to visit. Move there... As crazy as America can be it would take something pretty drastic for me to be inclined to permanently leave the states

I would say most Americans more or less share the South Park perception of Canada:

Have always loved your beautiful country. Enjoyed Hamilton, Toronto, Quebec City, Montreal...would love to check out the west. My partner and I are frequently mistaken for Canadian when we travel abroad...and we do little (frequently nothing) to correct the misunderstanding, as we consider it a compliment. You are like a sane, understated version of the US that actually believes in ideals that the US seems only capable of preaching.

Do not return hate for hate. He deserves your pity as much as any other limited human does.

    Canada? Where's that?

I'm a dual citizen, and I live 39 miles south of the B.C. border. If Americans think of Canada, I can't detect it. If I ask 10 people here who the Premier of British Columbia is, I doubt that even one would give the right answer (Christy Clark).

If you search for "Canada" in any major U.S. newspaper, there may be anywhere from zero to four hits. In contrast, the National Post and the Globe and Mail both publish numerous stories about the United States every day.

If Americans bothered to think about the Canadian political system at all (trust me, about one in 4,200 do), they might reconsider the usefulness of the parliamentary system. Everyone worries there won't be a majority vote for the President. They might marvel that most of the prime ministers' parties come to power as coalitions and rarely pull a majority. Americans wait in vain for the President to give a press conference, but in Canada, the Prime Minister often must answer questions from opposition grillers like Tom Mulcair (another party leader Americans couldn't name even for a million $$$).

I think a lot of Americans might like Canada (perhaps not so much Ontario weather...), but first it would require curiosity and an open mind.

Come to think of it...Ted Cruz promised to renounce his Canadian citizenship if he was nominated. Now, maybe he should consider renouncing his U.S. one instead. Toronto needs a replacement for Rob Ford.

    (Browncoat got it right!)

Oh, and P.S., after watching tonights debate/sleazefest, get on youtube and find some speech by Tom Mulcair and listen. It will make you jealous of Canadians!

I've been to Canada many times and to several Provinces. I always enjoyed the people and the places - especially B.C. What's not to like, eh?

I love Canada. I've been to 5 different provinces.

    British Columbia
    Alberta
    Ontario
    New Brunswick
    Nova Scotia

My dream is to retire and buy a house in Canmore, Alberta. The Canadian Rockies are just so beautiful.

As far as Canadian politics I only have an outsiders view. One think that strikes me is that the Canadian government can get things done. We just have so much gridlock in our system and it seems to only be getting worse.

Never been, but I have a generally positive view. Breathtaking scenery, placid international relations, and the government, despite being *slightly* too liberal for me, seems mostly good-natured.

If given the chance to visit, I would love to.

It's fine. I don't like it very much politically, but it's a decent place.

I haven't been to Canada in a long time but.

Based on my understanding: people are nicer, your government knows how to actual function and fund things, your prime minister is hot, and you have better weather.

There are a bunch of places in Canada with little to no population. We should all move to one of those towns and make it the friendliest LGBT town in the world

I don't want to hate people and I rarely do, but that man is a sociopath and will drop nukes if elected; there's no avoiding negative feelings and lack of pity.
