I was watching the Colbert Report today and there was a man, a scientist, who claimed to find other genetic links to homosexuality. He said gay men are more likely to have a longer ring finger than index finger (most men have a longer index finger) and lesbians are more likely to have a longer index finger. (most have a longer ring finger- it is reversed. see?) I was suprised to find that I do have the "lesbian hand"- my index is longer than my ring. He also said that homosexual men are more likely to have a counter-clockwise whirl in their hair (in the back, your hair twists counter-clockwise). Only 8% of the population bear this genetic abnormality, but most of them are homosexual.
His research suggests and supports the theory that homosexuality is an inborn, genetically-controlled trait rather than a choice or product of nurture.

I pose questions to you now:
    1. Does your hand fit the proposed traits for your gender and sexuality?
    2. Guys, does your hair fit the proposed traits?
    3. What do you think of his research? Crock of crap or feasible scientific link?

Please reply as I am interested in your responses and the results of the survey!!!

I love the Colbert Report, but his guests are usually a little controvercial...

I'd never heard this before. My ring finger is longer than my index finger. Unfortunately (well, fortunately as far as I'm concerned), I don't have enought hair on the back of my hand to tell which way it's growing.

It would be interesting if there was a link of some kind. "Scientific" studies come in different levels of accuracy...

Ha... I do have both of those traits. I think it could possibly be scientific, but I'd most definately need more hard evidence for proof to me.

I think you've got it (or he's got it) slightly wrong. I believe they're probably talking about this study: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/695142.stm

According to that, most men's index fingers are shorter than their ring fingers. I believe it's the degree of difference that was at issue.

:roflmao: My friends and family will be happy to know I am apparently scientifically heterosexual. According to the information presented, I am, but somehow I am not sure these things are across the board.

They both were right for me and indicated "GAY, look at the little gay boy with his fairy fingers and hair flair"

Should I have censored fairy:***: ?

 Is it too late to add a poll to this thread about weather the info was right or not? I think that would be a little easier to view how many people found this information to be true. Just an idea.:icon_wink

That wasn't it; this guy was for the New York Magazine. It was similar, but not what he had. Thanks for the link though =]

I'd love to watch the video clips but I can't! *cries*

OK, what does it mean when your index finger and your ring finger are THE SAME LENGTH? And I'd have to let my hair grow back to find out about the whirl thing (I shave my head bald currently)...

Meh, CNN had a thing on today about how people walk might be indicative of if they're gay or not. http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/06/26/sexuality/index.html

Xequar- CNN had alot of gay stuff on today, Paula Zahn devoted her entire hour to it. I guess because it's pride month or something??? I don't know...

My ring finger is longer, but with my hair, it's next to impossible to determine the whirl. If anything it looks like I have two :eusa_doh:

Both me and my (gay) friend sitting next to me have ring fingers longer than our index fingers

The back of our hair is dead straight though...

Well i cant see the back of my head and (i feel like an idiot) i cant remember which is the index and which is the ring finger. So i cant say anything about me. Sorri

I suppose is possible there is a link but a correlation doest mean causation.
