Well, reports say the Queen made the first move. To have rebuffed the move would no doubt be an even bigger breach of protocol. I recall the story of some woman (who I think was African American?) getting really excited about meeting the Queen back in the 80s or 90s, and she just hugged her pretty tightly. The Queen just sort of let it happen and smiled, because that's what queens are supposed to do.

Aww, that's sweet ^^ I think there's this sort of no-touching thing with the queen though, like the article said, but hell, if the Queen breaks the code, no matter, she's the Queen and she's human, she can be touched  I think the First Lady did the right thing.

It might not have been protocol but it seems the queen made the first guesture, with Michelle Obama simply responding. If you don't want touched, don't touch other people!! I'd be a little surprised if the Queen was personally insulted, she can't be that out of touch (no pun intended), can she?

Isn't there something better for the media to report?! especially given the reason why the Obama's are in the UK.

    :roflmao:

Ms. Obama can take a shit on the queen.

Miss Windsor does nothing for this country anyway.

She just makes my money look like old people.

Absolutely! I think the news has spent more time talking about this than about the actual summit.

2 human beings making a friendly gesture...what a big deal for the media...do they really have nothing better to talk about? How sad.

How dare she put her arm on our Queen. It's not appropriate to approach the Monarch in such a way; I doubt even the duke of Edinburgh would have done such a thing!
I'm disappointed in Michelle. She should show respect to our Sovreign and not give her a fucking iPod, do they think we don't have Apple stores in London? This is an absolute insult to the British Empire. An utter abhorrance. Infact, the Queen already owns an iPod! And a Wii! And several palaces. And she's part of our national identity!

    Again, an utter abhorrance.

War continues, people are displaced and seek asylum, people are still homeless, we are in economic downtown and two people touching makes the headlines.... I think this says far more about the state of the media than it does about either the Queen or Michelle Obama!

You don't want anyone touching you? Don't touch them first. And besides, the Queen's iPod was already out of date. I mean, it wasn't even a video iPod. She's the Queen of a nation that was once a world power and she can't even get a modern iPod? If things are that bad over there and I were in charge, I'd want a hug too!

Anyway, I'd make a bigger deal out of that masonic hand shake, but they wouldn't want that, would they? :eusa_naug
It's better for them to try and keep your mind on other issues like "Did first lady Michelle Obama breach protocol by putting her arm around Britain's Queen Elizabeth?", esp coming from AOL :icon_wink

Nah, whatevs. The Queen touched first, so it was the only thing to do. I don't believe in the monarchy anyway so all this "Don't touch the Queen!" stuff doesn't really sit that well with me. Michelle's cool.

So no, not out of line.

Not sure what the fuzz is all about....I just love it how the media jumps on stuff that isn't even important.

Well, I just think its unnatural not to want to be touched. The Queen needs to do away with this tradition. She'd probably smile more with more hugs.

I'd be more offended being given signed portraits of the royal family. Trust this country to give such a self-righteous and lame presenttttt.

    Throw them away, Obama's!

The last two years, my brother and his wife have given me framed photos of their daughter and/or a personalized calendar with pictures of their daughter.

A friend of mine is sending me a personalized Christmas card with a picture of his family every year. I think it's nice!
