Many foreign films have been released in The States - USA. Quite often "sensitive" material (basically sex and / or social taboo material in The States) have been removed. A way to ferret out if this has happened is to look at the play length of USA version and lets say other countries release length - European countries, Japan, Korea, Taiwan.

Other times a film is not even "available" in The States - altogether.

Do you think this is censorship, a violation of the First Amendment?

What drives this in The States?

Dunno, but I'm still mad about the movie "Pride"'s dvd cover omitting any mention of LGBT, Pride flags, ect. For a movie called Pride! Why?

blame the MPAA. it has to do with more of censorship, which is pretty damn outdated

Mmm, whether it's the right thing to do to a film is a mix bag, I guess. On one hand things that can get censored or removed may alter the image/intention of the film. On the other hand sometimes I'm glad I didn't see what was removed, if I learn about said removal of a scene (an example of the latter is there was an anime movie I was watching that I think I read originally had a rape scene in it, but it was removed in the version I watched).

I think I remember learning about a censorship type thing in political systems and, although it's been altered over the years, I think it still exists. Essentially it's all about keeping things considered lewd out of the public eye. Then, of course, there's just...social stigma that keeps things censored and repressed.
