I am so guilty of this, ever since I was a child. I always thought the characters in books, movies, anime, manga, etc. were more fascinating than real people.

Anyone else have this "affliction?" :icon_wink

Man, I'm pretty sure I've been at this game since day one. Too many fictional characters to love.

I guess it's less of "loving" characters, and more wanting to be them, in an empathetic way. When I like a character, I see parts of myself that I like in them, and vice versa. Haven't crushed on a character in a long time. I wanna say maybe rouge from the old x-men cartoon. Or catwoman.

I wouldn't call it love, but I feel that. I've been smitten with N from Pokemon Black and White for a while and all I wanna do is cuddle him tbh haha... There are several other characters from other things i'm sure, but he comes to mind first. Gah, why am I like this.

Fictional characters are the only ones worth falling in love with, in my experience.

Think about it. You can visit them every day, at any point in their timeline. You learn things from watching their story, thereby having access to both the general and intimate details of their life. You get to hear their voice (if televised) and repeat the best moments with them, whenever you like. And there is no need for emotional reciprocation because they not only don't know you exist, but they aren't real either. There is never a break up or misunderstanding because the relationship is entirely fulfilling and one-sided. Not to mention they are often far more attractive (both personality and appearance) than normal people. And not only that, but you can be in multiple relationships at once without fear of cheating, because they exist in alternate universes. The only thing you cannot do with them is touch, but I never liked touching people anyway so no loss there.

The better question is, why would you fall in love with a real person?

Well there's also the fact that they are custom designed to be interesting and affable from the get-go. If there's an unappealing character, that's also by design. *Unless it's from lack of writer skill, in which case those characters might have to get really lucky with love from readers.

Rapunzel from Tangled is the kind of girl that makes me believe in heaven, because no one on Earth is that freaking adorable.

I've always fantasized about fictional characters, especially from video games where i do have some sort of control over them. I don't actually fantasize about being with them (I used to when i was a teenager) I tend to imagine characters getting off with each other. Like my own gay fanfiction of them. I do fall for people in the real world, even with their faults and imperfections, but they tend to be people who are not interested in me that way. so my fictional character fantasies are kind of there to comfort me when i lose touch with my real world crushes.

Very much. I've been in love with Bo from "Lost Girl" pretty much since I first saw the series. And Elsa from Frozen. I was also in love with Phoebe from "Charmed" as a teenager.

I've had a lot of crushes on fictional characters from games and shows. Obviously a lot of people do too, and fictional characters can be pretty admirable considering cosplay, fanart, etc.

Link and Cloud Strife were my first fictional male crushes, I'll admit.

A good question to which I'm afraid I haven't got the answer.
