I'm really interested to know how common it is for sexuality to run in families. I was in denial about certain parts of my sexuality for a long time. I actually feel like for most of my life I was either in denial that I was attracted to women or in denial that I was attracted to men. Part of this comes from feeling strange about having the same orientation as other people in my family. But I realize there are plenty of straight siblings out there who probably don't think it's weird that they share orientations. I'm just wondering if there could be some kind of gene discovered through tracking orientations throughout families that causes sexual orientation.

From my understanding, genetics doesn't play a major role in sexual orientation. Epigenetics plays the largest role. The environment in the womb, amount of hormone exposure and birth order, has the most affect on sexual orientation.

As far as I know, I don't know anyone else in my blood-related family that is LGBT.

I don't but I've seen quite a few cases. I remember one lady she was married in a heterosexual relationship and had 4 kids but realized she was a lesbian and then found out her son was gay.

My dad knows 2 brothers that are gay.

A user by the name of YuriBunny has 2 lesbian aunts.

Roseanne Barr has a gay brother and a gay sister.

I remember hearing a story of this catholic family there were 8 kids. 4 boys and 4 girls. 3 of the boys and 1 of the girls were gay.

There was also someone who posted on here a couple years ago. She was a lesbian and so was her sister and her brother was gay. She also had a younger brother who was somewhat effeminate but she thinks he was straight.

I remember seeing 2 gay twins come out to their dad on YouTube.

I also remember seeing a gay brother and lesbian sister from Arkansas on YouTube.

So yeah it happens more than you think but I still don't think it's genetic because I don't have any lgbt family members as far as I know.

Don't know of any. I have seven siblings and from what I can tell, I am the only black sheep.

Extended family-wise, I only have one cousin and one respective aunt and uncle. But every body I know in extended or immediate family is as straight as a toothpick.

But then again, many of my siblings are young children. So it is technically possible that one of them could be gay or bi later on.

I do not. My twin brother is very straight. In fact, he's so straight that he bogarted all the heterosexuality in the womb and left me with this ambiguous quasi-asexuality that I have. That's my theory, at least

None of my siblings or parents are but apparently my Mom has multiple cousins who identify somewhere on the LGBT spectrum, I have no idea where though.

I have no idea about my brother, but I have a gay uncle, two lesbian aunts, and two bisexual cousins.

I come from quite the big family, with seven (soon to be eight) siblings so that's nine including me; whom I like to number from oldest to youngest, I'm Number 3. And the only one who seems to be any kind of queer is my gay younger brother(Number 5). So Number 1 & 2, No. Me, Number 3, Yes. Number 4, No idea. Number 5, Gay. Number's 6-9, not old enough to tell.

My sister says she's dated women before, but she is currently in a long-term relationship with a man. I don't know if she was experimenting, or if she is bi. My dad's side is a crazy mess of random people, and I know only a few of them(many people on that side marry and divorce and hook up a lot...I've never met my dad's dad...my dad has never met his dad, it's a bit crazy). I don't talk to the few I know much, I just know a lot of them are in heterosexual relationships or were at some point. My mom's side seems to be full of straight people, but a close family friend is bi.

Hah... nope, I think I'm the only one in my whole family who isn't straighter than an arrow. It's okay though, I have a lot of LGBT friends to vent to who can empathise...

My younger sister is asexual, and currently has no clue what kind of romantic she is. Everyone else is straight, I think

Me, my sister (who is actually on this site as 'Forrsythia'), and our male cousin are gay. Also, my nana admitted that if she had been born in this genereration she may have married a woman. :newcolor:

I knew a gay guy with a gay brother. My mom is also Kinsey 1(heteroflexible), so that made it kind of hard to come out to her. Since she experimented with girls and was attracted to a few, so she thought she was a lesbian when she was twelve. She didn't take me seriously since she assumed I was a fellow Kinsey 1.

Oh, shoot, I forgot. I don't know her current sexuality (straight? bi? it's a mystery but one of those two probably), but my mother did have a moment in her life where she identified as lesbian.

My mum's bisexual. Her feelings of attraction are actually very similar to mine in some ways. However she's in deep denial about it, because she's a bit of a homophobe.

No, to my knowledge, no one in my family is LGBT. That kinda sucks because I have 32 cousins. Surely, one of them HAS to be gay or something, but it doesn't seem like it.

My sister is asexual, I think, but apart from that, my family is straight as an arrow and cis as an island.
