Where did that come from?

Like, Sal spent the night last night and when we were in my room, he looks at my flip-flops and says, "Oh you so would."
I'm like, "So would what?"
Him: "Have white flip-flops."
Me: "So?"
Him: "Only really gay guys wear white flip-flops."

So I thought about it and yeah... I know no hetero boys with white flip-flops. In fact, all heteros I know where leather flip-flops.
Where in god's name did that stereotype come from?

Very comfortable + there's a bottle opener underneath
