Is there a supportive LGBT community where you live?

I live in Melbourne, Australia, and most people here don't have a problem with the LGBT community. Universities offer support services for LGBT, there are events and shows that are LGBT themed, and gay people here are treated like anyone else.

Gay couples are a common sight in the city, and fortunately no one harasses them.

Our little slice of awful is fairly conservative, so the LGBT community is mostly underground. There's a small LGBT church that gets vandalized all the time, an open gay bar and a hidden one, but that's it. Unless you're in the district at night you won't see any gay couples around here. The local LGBT group funds were cut so they lost their building, so now we meet up at the LGBT church. There's no LGBT clubs for the kids in schools either so the churches one Friday group is all that's available for them. I've also had to leave two jobs now due to rampant transphobia. I so can't wait to move out of here...

Unfortunately not, we're a large town so I thought there would be a nice community. We set one up at the university after my constant pushing for one, I thought it would be really good.. then a few months in and there's still no interest or anyone joining it even though it's up and running, it's baffling as other uni's across the UK seem to have big LGBT groups. Wonder where they all are lol.
We didn't have one in college nor any schools I was at (a lot of homophobia going on).

Back home in Devon the scene's not so good, but I moved on my own (to an assisted living flat) to study at college in Brighton, and there is amazing. Sadly there are hate crimes because it is well known for being 'gay-central' but in general I have found it really good and the streets are filled with every kind of person under the sun (and then some!). Seriously anyone in England I'd recommend a trip to Brighton. House prices now are outrageous but even coming to have a look might cheer you. Especially the North Lanes and around there - there's even LGBT+ themed art on walls and stuff.

I can't really say. I live in Maryland, which is tolerant (but not completely accepting) of the LGBT community. I see a few gay people at my college and no one seems to care. It's very safe. No one fears for their safety. Overall, being LGBT where I live is not hard. There are legal protections for the LGBT community in my state. I can't say for sure if there is an active LGBT community.

The state is tolerant, but not completely accepting, for the most part.

I'm a highschool student in upstate New York and it's a mixed bag here but generally pretty accepting. We have a gay-straight alliance at my school and I haven't seen same sex couples or trans kids get harrassed, but there's definitely a social divide between the straight and cis kids and the lgbt ones. As cities go, though, mine isn't bad in terms of accpetance and safety.

Absolutely supportive. We actually have the best GSA support of any highschools nation-wide.

People seem pretty accepting around these parts - but I've never really made an effort to join any LGBT groups etc., I should maybe look into it.

I live in the most progressive neighborhood in the most progressive city in an otherwise VERY backwards part of the country. So yes, within city limits.

    Out where I live, nope.

I know there's areas in the city (Denver) though...

Very good so far. Especially for our Youth and it's obtainable. Could be improved of course but, we have come very far where I live. I hope to further help it and make it more reachable in our rural areas.

There used to be. Now, the gays seem to hate each other with a passion.

There's some homophobia, but I think that we've lost the sense of community. We're particularly vicious with one another.

I live in a fairly liberal part of the world, and I am so thankful. I have all kinds of resources here. Yeah, there's the occasional biggot every once in while, of course, but most people will agree that they are dumb, and take your side. It's a pretty safe place to be openly out. I have, however, heard people tell me that they aren't going to tell their parents because they wouldn't be accepting. And that sucks.

Any particular reason why that is? I find it odd that gays are hating on each other than coming together.

I don't think there is one here. Maybe I just haven't found it yet. But I don't think so...
