Hi, in my area I regularly see straight people (mainly men) who have the stereotypical appearance of gay people, ie: dying hair, wearing ridiculously short and tight jeans, other flamboyant features. Whereas at the same time I know gay people who appear, and could pass for being, straight in every aspect. I don't get out much, but I can see this almost everywhere. Is it some sort of new fashion? Opinions? Now, I know that external appearance does not reveal sexuality as such, and I know some might find this thread controversial, but what I'm asking is how can you actually tell if someone is gay in modern day society? Thanks.
I wish you could... that way I'd know if my crush were gay or straight cuz I'm getting mixed signals...
We should start a secret LGBT handshake, so you can just go up to them and ask them if they know the handshake XD
There isn't really a way you can tell. A few people my friend knows include a guy who everyone considers gay, a man who coats himself in makeup and fake nails, and a cross-dresser. All of them are as straight as the Empire State Building. Because of this, I have disabled my gaydar. The only few LGBT people I know look perfectly straight and act perfectly straight. I give up
I honestly don't know. Im at the far end of the spectrum were i'm gay, but you seriously cannot tell, meanwhile there is a guy in my class who is very flamboiant who claims to be straight. I guess you just have to ask.
As attitudes towards the LGBT community have changed, so have the old stereotypes about fashion and styling. 15-20 years ago, many straight men wouldn't have dared to wear pink in case it raised questions about their sexuality, but that's no longer the case. The progressive change in attitudes towards the LGBT community has also liberated straight people and allowed them room to experiment and embrace different styles. In that key respect, the social changes have been positive for everyone. We also have to remember that gay men, in particular, are over-represented in the world of fashion design. Many of the styles on the market now will have come from the creative intelligence of gay men.
Steve Hughes talked about this XD Years ago, shaving your body hair or wearing tights pants might have pegged you, but today, in a more accepting climate? If they show an obvious attraction to the same-sex, frequent gay establishments, or tell you they are. There are numerically more straight people, but gay people have more reason to pretend to be straight (to blend in). I'd look for several "clues" and draw my own conclusions...
