I've been fascinated with birds for the past 7 years and birdwatching has become one of my biggest passions in my life. If there's anyone here that also loves birds, I'd be more than happy to talk birds with you!

I am a casual bird watcher. I used to love watching the hummingbirds battle over the feeders. I am usually the only who notices most of them or knows their sounds. My Dad taught me how to make a bird call with a blade of grass. I can still do it today.
There isn't a bird out there that I don't like, but I like woodpeckers, goldfinches, cardinals/tanagers, hawks/falcons, and owls a lot. Waterbirds are really cool too. I recently got my driver's license so I'm gonna step up my birdwatching game. I plan on going to some state/city parks and trying to add on to my life list. Ever since I started liking birds, I've realized there's so much more to them than regular people see. The insult "bird brain" really isn't that insulting, since they're much smarter than a lot of people think. For example, birds can migrate thousands of miles away and come back to make a nest in the same general area they were the year before. ---------- Post added 11th May 2017 at 05:19 PM ---------- Hummingbirds are awesome. You're lucky that you live in Texas; you probably get to see at least a few different species. Here in Michigan, we only get Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, but hummingbird behavior is really amusing to watch. This is unrelated, but over the last month I've had the pleasure of watching a pair of robins building a nest and raising their young. My mom and I have both fed the mother by hand and she's fine with us being around the nest. The babies are growing bigger by the day. It's a beautiful process to watch and I'm probably gonna be a little sad when they leave the nest tbh haha
Yes, they do vary a bit here. I see an occasional cardinal, but even though the Blue Jay is nice to look at, it is a big bully. I love to hear the mockingbird sing and doves are usually nesting nearby. Their tone is soothing to hear.
