A few days ago I saw a recording of an interview I was in and I sound so freaking...GAY. I 100% honestly had no idea. To me I sound normal, mature and somewhat masculine. I can't believe it, I was in shock. I was quite embarrased but I guess no one else would have noticed.

    :frowning2:

Why do I sound so different to myself!!

Hah the exact same thing happened to me. The first time I heard my voice back all I could think of was how stereotypically gay I sounded.

But it's okay. Our voice is simply one part of us that makes us individual, it's nothing to be ashamed of! (*hug*)

omg! that's like the time I started using a microphone when singing and performing. when I would always play guitar I wouldn't really have any equipment, and then I started using amps and mics. the first time I sang through the microphone, I was a little shocked and I was all like "man, is that how I sound?" but then I got used to it.

once you get past the initial shock, it's all good.

Haha... I had the same experience. I always thought that my voice was pretty much neutral when it comes to masculinity or femininity, but when I recorded my voice some time ago, I thought that it sounded rather "gay."

It doesn't and never really did bother me though. I was simply surprised and wondered just how no one picked up on it.

This has happened to me. I did a project for a class one time, and it got filmed. When we watched it later on, I was so surprised about how my voice sounded. It shocked me, to say the least. I'm used to it now.

Over recorded material, I sound straight. In person though, I think it would be at least debatable.

I don't have that problem, well at least, not the gay accent. In terms of speech, I guess my 'politeness' would give me away. And a 'tch' sound here and there.

I always thought I sounded pretty masculine, but when I listen to recordings of myself, I can't help but shudder. My voice much more effeminate than I wish it was, although it's not as gay as some of the flaming people in my school, so that gives me some level of comfort.

Supposedly I sound a lot like my brother, who has a masculine sounding voice, but I think that's debatable. I hear my voice every time the answering machine plays the outgoing greeting, and I don't think it sounds too "gay", though I think some other recordings kind of do. No one accuses me of having a hugely effeminate voice.

I think it may have to do with how you hear your voice. When you talk a lot more of the sound gets transmitted through your bones to your ear, which is why you "sound different", and I think it may emphasize lower frequencies, which may make your voice sound deeper or more "masculine" to yourself then it does to others.

I sound really gay when I talk. Like, I say "like" like, 5 times in every sentence.

Yeah I was wondering this too. When I speak people must automatically assume so.
