Like towns that are populated a lot by university students, or areas of cities that have a lot of university kids? Random, I know. Thanks in advance!
I know that UBC (University of British Columbia) is a very good uni and has its own mini town around the uni Its quite nice, and always alot going on there. Lots of good shops and crap, and lots of housing. It gets a thumbs up from me.
McGill University is in one of the cities with the largest student per capita ratio on the entire continent of North America. But, I'm sure you already know that. Some other universities that have nice towns built around them are the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon), the University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge), the University of Western Ontario (London) and University of Victoria (Victoria). Or at least, I like the cities in which they are located. Ooh! And Dalhousie University in Halifax.
The only one I can think of is Briercrest in Caronport, the only people who live there work at the university, but that is a Christian university so probably not quite what you are looking for...
Others would be: Carleton (Ottawa) University of Ottawa Simon Fraser (Vancouver) University of Alberta (Edmonton) University of Windsor (Windsor, ON) Brock University (St. Catherines, ON) Wilfred Laurier University (Waterloo, ON) University of Waterloo (Kitchener/Waterloo, ON) (The last two universities are just a few hundred meters apart)
university of western ontario in london i think has a large student population. i hear its one of the best overall universities montreal is nice too. like one of the previous posters said, it's one of the top 5 college towns in north america.
Lots of super-expensive housing, that is. Vancouver is one of the, if not the, most expensive place to live in Canada. There is definitely student stuff here that is cheaper, but it's cheaper in comparison to the city. If you want to live alone near the university, you are looking at I would say usually AT LEAST $900/month, and that might only be a basement suite. Further afield things are cheaper, of course, but not cheap like Montreal is cheap. Or the smaller towns.
I've heard Kingston (where Queens is) is quite nice and basically just a university town. Victoria is nice to visit... wouldn't want to be stuck there, though. The island is so incredibly sleepy.
This. Victoria is one of the nicest places to visit, but ive been stuck there for awhile and...it gets old fast...unless you want that kind of life. Tofino is definitely amazing.
To be totally honest I forgot how expensive BC is to live til Joey mentioned it. At this rate I feel like it might be more economical to stay in Montreal...
Halifax has 3 universities and Antigonish basically consists entirely of St. FX. Likewise Kentville consists of Acadia. University in NS isn't cheap. It is at MUN in St. John's.
Ontario might still be worthwhile to check out. The living expenses in some Ontario cities aren't too bad actually (definitely cheaper than in BC). Toronto isn't 'cheap' either but if I'm not mistaken, it's not as bad as it is in Vancouver. The Atlantic region, in terms of living costs and such, is a lot cheaper.
Once you've experienced a Vancouver winter, though, you'll realise it's worth every penny. :icon_bigg It's definitely costly but I think it's worth it.
Couldn't agree with you more! Yeah, it is expensive living on the West Coast, but it makes up for it in other ways.
Like joeyconnick said, Queens University is one of Ontario's most prestigious universities and Kingston is overrun by students.
