I got my dad to go to a PFLAG meeting - Empty Closets - A safe online community for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered people coming out

I didn't actually go, my mom did - if you read my past threads, she's totally fine with it and my dad tried to fall back on you're-too-young-to-know. Somehow, though, she talked him into going to the local PFLAG meeting tonight, somewhere downtown, and she emailed me the results. I was worried he would sit there with his arms folded and not talk the entire time, but apparently he told his little story to the group of 16 or so, laughed at the appropriate times, patted the leg of the woman next to him when she started crying. Participating, basically. Of course he stills says my happiness and safety are his biggest concern, which I never doubted, but until now he kept silent about the whole thing even after I went to talk to him. At least this is him acknowledging the truth and giving some level of priority to it. Best part: he said he would probably be willing to go next month.

That's awesome, sounds like you have some pretty cook parents there, they just need to ajust but it looks like they're heading in the right direction!

That's great. You should thank your dad for going. That is a big step for him. In the future you should go with him. It will be good for both of you.

That's fantastic. Don't let this die. Ask him how the meeting was, what his thoughts were, etc. Hopefully now he is more willing to talk.
