There's a good chance that I won't be on EC much till August 15th.

I'm going to be spending the next two months without much internet. In exactly 11 hours and 58 minutes (12:50 PM Sunday) I'll be boarding a plane to Sacramento, CA.

I'm going to be working for a non profit organization called Sierra Service Project (www.sierraserviceproject.org) Basically, highschool youth groups from predominantly Methodist churches (but anyone is welcome) come to one of 5 sites in Native American Reservations in California, Nevada and Arizona, and there's an urban site in South Central Los Angeles. During the week the highschool youth repair homes for the elderly and low income people in the area (on the reservations most everyone is low income). The work includes wheel chair ramp building, painting, roofing, odd jobs, laying cement and such.

MY job in all this is chef. My co chef and I will be responsible for cooking breakfast and dinner for 60+ highschool youth, 10ish adult chaperons and our 5 other staff. We're also responsible for doing the grocery shopping, which doesn't sound so bad, but it's a 40 minute drive to the nearest town, Fallon. Oh yeah, I'll be staying in a tiny town called Schurz in Nevada, about 100 miles south east of Reno, on the Walker River Paiute reservation. I'll be sleeping on an air mattress on the floor of an elementary school.

I doubt I'll be able to get on often, as I have no idea if there is wireless internet at the elementary school, and I doubt I'll get to have much personal time to do secret things on the computer. I also know that the cell reception in that area sucks so I'll be cut off from the world in that way.

I get home August 15th, and from then I'll be able to be on more regularly.
