Penn and Teller did an episode on PETA in the Bullshit! series and completely caught members of them using medication for illnesses (diabetes perhaps?) that had been tested on animals, yet they condemn anyone else who does the same. As I see it, nature itself is pretty cruel, and at least we don't eat animals alive as can happen in the wild, so I don't feel bad that people hunt and butcher animals (although PETA makes a good point about the bad conditions of slaughterhouses and the way the animals are treated poorly before being killed). As the most intelligent species we have a responsibility to reduce as much suffering as we can for all things possible. |
