Default A Tutorial Everyone Should Read

This is a MUST READ!

Alright kiddos. I have had it up to nearly skyscraper-height with seeing the same threads repeated again and again and again. I'm looking at you, Gaydarists and "How do I meet people?" thread starters.

I figure that it was about flippin' time that someone took a couple of minutes out of their life and showed you how to use the Search button. Like Google, it is your friend. There is no such thing as a stupid question, but someone has already answered yours, I bet.

For your sake, I am only going to show you have to use the simple search. Your wee little brains may explode if I told you much more.

STEP ONE: Finding the Search box. It is located on the blue bar at the top of every forum page. I am using the one on the main page because you can search all of the forum quickly.

STEP TWO: Click on it. In the search field, type in what you think there isn't a thread about.

STEP THREE: Click on 'Go'.

STEP FOUR: Be in shock and amazement when you see that someone has already created a thread for just this very purpose. (I actually went through the board to see how many times the Gaydar thread had been started. The number? About 35 threads based on Gaydar alone. I did not count threads that were like, "OMG. I MET THIS PERSON AND I DON'T KNOW IF THEY ARE GAY. WHAT SHOULD I DOOOOOOOOO?")

STEP FOUR.FIVE: If you cannot find any results with what you typed in, try making it a broader stroke. Or if you have too many results, try to add more detail.

STEP FIVE
: Post your response in that frickin' thread instead of creating a new one. It you must necropost, do it.

Also, I realize the potential irony of this post if by some chance, my multiple searches hid an actual "How to Search" thread. If this is the case...

SCREW YOU. I DID IT BETTER.

EDIT: Holy cow, that stretched the board like a pregnant lady's stomach. If any mod gets a second, maybe you guys could shrink it back down to size?

Step 6

Save screenshots as PNG files and not JPGs unless they contain a lot of photographic content. They will use less disk space and not have degradation from compression artifacts.

Step 6a --optional
Run the png through something like pngout to make it even smaller and friendlier to users on low bandwidth connections.
