    Re: celeb dieing season?

I agree,it's been a heck of a week for celebs. I worry, who will be next.
It's just one shock on top of another. I hope it stops, here & now, but,
there are some who are very sick, right now. Like Walter Cronkite.
I hope they all can RIP and my prayers go out to their families,
    friends and fans.

Hmm...you know, I wouldn't exactly say this is "Fun" material, neither is it a game. I'm not trying to sound rude...

But, in response, it is really odd, and sad, that they're have been deaths of famous people this close together.

i put it there because of the subtitle being 'no serious stuff here' and this isn't too serious but if the mods think otherwise i don't mind

Eh. It's too bad that these deaths came so close to each other, but I don't think it's odd. People die all the time. Sometimes those people are famous. This just happens to be one of those times.

Yep, the baby boomer generation right? People just die. Being famous doesn't make you die any faster (well you could argue that the stress might, but thats irrelevant. Its still sad though.

My thoughts are you can't pick and choose when you die.

Theres only 2 guarantees in life, Death and Taxes.

People should stop worrying about what can't be controlled, and live their life!

I feel that at times I'm emotionally dead, because I wasnt traumatised by the death of Michael Jackson, or any celebrity for that matter. I never met the people, and people die in the world everyday. Why are celebrities more important than the 82 year old man who died in his sleep last night? Obviously the media always jumps on the bandwagon, but it annoys me that people are more sad about MJ dying than soldiers dying in Afganistan or Iraq. Anyway rant over I'm sounding like an old biddie!

As I said in another thread:

Guess what? Real people die all the time

A classmate's father just died. That has a larger impact on me than the oxiclean guy, a burnt out musician, or a pinup model from the 70's.

It's kind of simple actually. When someone dies, the people who knew that person typically spend time together to remember that person. When someone is known by millions of people all over the world, millions of people all over the world spend time together to remember that person.

But they didnt actually know him. They just think they did. dont get me wrong its sad that someone who has had a difficult life and an awful childhood should die so young. But I dont feel deep down emotion...I never knew the guy.

So true, and we can thank trash called "entertainment news" for that. People for some reason enjoy vicariously knowing people.

My uncle died the same day as Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.
Am I the only one who doesn't think that these celebrities dying is even remotely important?

It's sad, but really, thousands die each day. I doubt anyone here actually KNEW these people personally, like a few above me have said. I do suppose that it's a bit unsettling, though.

My mathematical training kicks in, and reminds me that random scatter means exactly that - random scatter. There'll be times when a bunch of events will happen close to each other, and other times when it'll seem like months between such events happening. That's how random works.

Sorry about your uncle. (*hug*) Deaths affect us in different ways. It is very sad that the deaths of soldiers in the war aren't getting as much attention as celebrities. Still I think grieving for celebrities that were such a huge part of your life is normal. I remember the day Elvis Presley died. I remember where I was and what I was doing. I'm sure alot of people are going to remember when and where they were when they heard about Michael Jackson too. Its just life. (and death)
