    Ahem.
This hasn't been tested at all. He is a clinic doctor who happened to have some success with a patient. Because this hasn't been tested properly under the scientific method, one cannot say with any degree of certainty that this really works.
The article doesn't provide much to go on. They didn't even bother to link to the conference minutes.

Here's hoping they examine this gene mutation further to determine whether it's effective or not.

Well lets see what happens now. There could be side effects we do not yet know about. Sorta like I am Legend or whatever (i know i know, not a great movie, i'm just mentioning the concept).

Besides, I thought the cure was Injecting $160,000 directly into your blood stream? XD

This mutation was documented last year I believe. If anything this should have been the original article in my opinion. (click the smiley)

So I don't know what picture you were trying to show me... Since it didn't work.
But I'm not putting a kibosh on the whole concept. I just don't think everyone should be throwing their hands up to the heavens. This is a very new discovery and it must be researched further before we can call it miracle anything.

I can't see this being a breakthrough anytime soon though.

well if it goes well expect this dr to receive the Nobel peace prize
but just doing mutations wont help because its a virus it could mutate itself to become restistant to this treatment but stem cells are the best bet in any case and asides that its is renewing the cells (helper and cytotoxic T cells that were infected) but it wont build the immunity itself which is vital havin the ccr 5 is on prevention method but some ppl dont have their bodies strong enough to handle the treatment a lot more reasearch has to be done

it pisses me of the US doesnt have good stem cell reasearch funding :/
how hard would it be to just use the embryo from women that decide to have an abortion

Even if it does work, we will have decades befor eit becomes fiscally feasable and medically tested. And the long term side effects of stem cells are not understood.

Yeah this is not the first time I have heard about this.

While the result is promising, this is but a single datapoint. To draw a conclusion from it is reckless at best.

u dont have to kill a baby to get stem cells. u jus take them out of the umbilical cord after the baby is born.
