OK, for anyone needing to earn a few extra "gay points", I just read about a (US) nationwide showing that's happening on September 23rd to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the release of the Wizard of Oz.

They have apparently completed a full high definition restoration of the original film and are having a one-night-only showing at theaters across the US.

If you have never seen this classic, which gave rise to Judy Garland as the first major gay icon, this would be a great opportunity to do so. I'm guessing there will be a million gay men at every theater

Here's the info if anyone's interested:

I seriously don't understand how Judy Garland is a gay icon. and definitely the Wizard of Oz... I just don't get it. I'd go see this, with Dark Side of the Moon playing on my Ipod ^_^ It'd be the ultimate in trippiness xD I actually might do that xD

Judy sang at a lot of gay places and had gay friends. Her father was gay. She sang about rainbows. And she was so camp

And the (now very dated, but I still love it) term "Friend of Dorothy", as a euphamism for "gay" comes from Wizard of Oz.

I think she's an icon because she had many gay friends and was a supporter of gay right's in a time when homosexuality was considered a terrible crime

I love this movie. Not because it is practically a requirement as a gay man, but because it just makes me feel so darn good inside. I remember watching it as far back as I can remember. It is just one of those movies that changed the way things were done in movies forever.
