    Tarja for voice, Anette for looks. One of my biggest regrets is never seeing them live while Tarja was still part of the group.

    I just want to preface this by saying that these are the songs that I think are, in general, the best songs ever; this is not a list of my favorite songs ever, although I do like all of them

    5. More Than a Feeling - Boston
    Quite possibly the ultimate feel good song; you cannot listen to this song and walk away in any mood other than a good one. It is simply about using music to slip back to a better time, something we all do at some point, I'm sure.

    4. Disarm - Smashing Pumpkins
    A bit of personal bias here, but I think this is a fantastic song. Its melody is simultaneously happy and sad, which perfectly fits the lyrics about the loss of childhood innocence (I think). That said, like many of Corgan's lyrics, this song's meaning is ambiguous, allowing it to speak for any kind of pain that you hide from other people.

    3. Guns 'n' Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine
    A seemingly happy song, yet the lyrics hint at a subject that is still quite sad. The singer is reminded of his happy childhood memories, and rather than look to the future, he simply asks, "where do we go?" Every member of G&R is in top form in this song, and every instrument stands out.

    2. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
    For all the flack it got for being overplayed, this is still a fantastic song. Its larger themes about life's journey coupled with its ambiguity makes it lyrics truly timeless, and you can't deny that Zepelin really know how to squeeze every drop of musical excellence out of their instruments.

    1. Turn the Page (Live Version) - Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band
    The original version never got much radio play, but the more serious live version really fits the lyrics well. The song is about the darker side of being a rock star. Its themes, however, such as putting up a front so that people don't see the pain you are going through, makes it applicable to most people's lives, and the slow build-up makes it a sheer joy to listen to. No words I can say can do justice to how magnificent this song is... ah, hell, just listen to it!

    In no particular order:

    * River Man (Nick Drake)
    * Small (Portishead)
    * How to Disappear Completely (Radiohead)
    * In the Court of the Crimson King (King Crimson)
    * Us and Them (Pink Floyd)

    I tried to describe each of them but it proved too hard... let's just say that they're as amazing as they can be.
