It kinda does look like a sloth, that was hairless (I saw a sloth when I went to Panama a few years ago). The "Montauk Monster" was real though (referenced in that article), although it was probably something that washed up from the nearby Plum Island (referenced to in Silence of the Lambs ^_^)
