I kinda was wondering why we come out of a closet? Like a closet of all things? Sure it sounds ok... but its odd when you think about it (or it was when i thought about it) Why do you think it was closet of all things?

Change the word closet with something else... What would you like to come out of instead of a closet?

Bruce and Boris (the first homosexuals) we found in a closet making out. Whenever they would go into the closet their intense gay love making would shake the house so much that everyone would yell: "come out of that closet before you bring the house down!"

Then Zeus came down from Olympus and used a lightning bolt to weld the closet shut because Boris and Bruce's love making woke him up from his nap; but, the lightning caught the house on fire and Boris as well, as Bruce threw buckets of water on him screaming: "Boris your flaming! flaming!"

and that is the story of the origin of in the closet (and flaming)

i cant even be bothered reading that wiki page haha. my guess which makes sense is that you change your clothes from the closet, so you change yourself from the closet. i bet that made no sense. i know what i meant tho lool.

in, out, shake it all about. all perfectly decent activities you can do with a cardboard box. which limits your choices really. a closet can be any colour, any size, any shape, AND you can do the hokey kokey in and out with it

A friend and I were discussing the idea of gay people throwing "coming out" parties the way that straight 16 year old girls used to have "coming out" parties (of a different kind, obviously)

We envisioned a lavishly decorated closet door in someone's house and you invite everyone over, and at the appointed time, the featured guest of the party comes busting out of the closet, there are streamers and noisemakers and applause and so forth.

I think it would be fun, but most of us probably aren't ready for a big party when we first come out

I think it's "a closet" because it's the smallest room in your house. It would be rather uncomfortable to be stuck in one, right? And we all know just how restricted we are when we have to be secretive about our sexuality.
