Since the World Cup is upcoming already, might as well as I need to satisfy my curiousity on this one. I often heard that the German players are labelled as "Panzers" (combat tanks in German?), but why the English "Vikings"? I thought the Scandinavian football teams are supposed to be labelled that one instead? Or, perhaps, England was once owned by Scandinavian people a long long time ago, hence that label? off topic: and on top of that, I noticed that some or half of the fantasy novels I've seen and read, does have some Scandinavian and Old English influence on it. It's just strange...
fyi if any thing Old Norse would have been the one influencing Old English and they're from the same Germanic language family just fyi.
Same, and I do follow the football a fair bit. If we're called in the press, it'd be lions because of our emblem.
