The Opening of the Winter Games

I hope you all had a chance to watch the opening of the Canadian Olympic Winter Games last night. It was a tremendous achievement for our northern neighbors and reflected the sophistication and artistry of their people. I know that our Canadian brothers and sisters participated in the pageantry and the games as well. I did notice one I knew.

I was very proud to watch the very OUT k.d. lang sing a lovely song with that set of awesome vocal cords and we can all take pride that she is one of us.

To quote a line from that old play/movie Boys in the Band, "maybe it takes a fairy to make something pretty" so I know lots of us were there as well and in all the ways there were to participate. Gee, I bet that spirit we saw last night might be what is in store for our tired old planet.

What I saw there reminded me of what I am seeing here. Your artistry, you effort, your creativity, and your sadness when someone is lost.

Gee, those games reminded me of you all, and golly, I just wanted to say HI.

Did those events remind you of anyone or anything to be hopeful for?

I loved Shane Koyczan's poem about Canada. It was brilliant. He is right when he says "we are experiment going right for a change" and "a country that is all the ways you choose to live". Almost complete legal equality in Canada for gays and lesbians. Go Canada!
