Default any Dutchmen or Dutchwomen here?

Hey people,

Anyone speaking Dutch here? I need some help on some of the Dutch words sometimes used in the household.

Take this example: Hoegaarden.

The people in my place often say: "Whole-Garten", or "Hoe-Garden"

Isn't it: "Hoo-hGaarden"? or just "Whole-Gaarden" will do?

(I heard that the Dutch pronounce the "G" in such a different way!)

I live where they speak Dutch, though I don't speak it much myself. Try Filip - he's a native Dutch speaker.

But for Hoegaarden, since it is beer, I feel more qualified to answer Since Hoegaarden is from Belgium, it should be pronounced like the Belgians speak Dutch (=Flemish). That means Hoo-gharden. The 'g' in Netherlands Dutch is 'h' said very much from the back of the throat--not so nice to listen to IMO (you wouldn't believe how 'Gouda' cheese is pronounced). But in Belgian Flemish it is just a little funky 'h' from the front of the throat.

I can also help you pronounce Stella Artois, Chimay, Rochefort, Leffe, etc.
