... in my high school government class. We did a mock senate and the teacher usually bans the topics of gay marriage and abortion, but he let me do it this year and I passed it. There were no homophobic comments, no one said it was a "stupid" issue, nothing. I thought I'd share this because if these are the future senators and congress members of the US, I'd say we've got a shot.
Besides religion? None Absolutely no legitimate reasons why we shouldn't legalize gay marriage In fact, the nastiest comment I got was, "If they want to adopt, they can get a dog."
Good work, Senator! :icon_wink Why does your teacher usually ban the topics of gay marriage and abortion?
My AP Lang teacher didn't let us talk about abortion because she thought it was overdone. Gay marriage never came up in my class, but there was a huge debate about it in another class.
thats really good ur teacher had no issue with that subject. last i heard we werent allowed that kinda subject in school. even sex ed classes we didnt delve to much into homosexuality. which you would think they would want to pass on the right messages. anyways, gay couples here in uk i think are allowed to adopt are they not? as long as they are in a stable relationship i dont think it should matter who the parents/ guardians are. but well done on your assignment.
Because they are such touchy topics. Talks of abortion and gay marriage always tend to end in arguments, and while there will be arguing in a mock senate, it wouldn't be constructive. Most of my opposition came from kids who were raised very religious. All the arguing in the world would not be able to convince them that what they were raised believing was wrong.
I didn't remember actually xD I would go look but I had deleted it anyway. But seriously, there are no legitimate arguments, even in my opinion within religious (at least Christian) dogma as well.
