LGBT issues and Youth

So the other day I had a class in a law class, and we watched a video on youth prisons in the USA. One of the things that popped up was this young teen saying that she would have never done drugs or had sex with a fellow woman if she had never gone to prison. She was put into a prison on a charge of shoplifting or something.

Today, one of my classmates did a presentation on street youth and how a pretty fair percentage of them are gay or lesbian. During question period, another classmate asked the other student if that could be related to the video we watched during a prior class when the girl said she would have never "done it with a female" if she hadn't gone to prison.

The presenter sort've snickered and reported that the gay and lesbian teens had told their parents which would have more or less resulted to them being kicked out or street youth, not the other way around.

I held my tongue, knowing that the classmate didn't mean to be ignorant but that it struck a nerve of the "choice or birth" debate. Of course in prison you need a sexual release.. We're human! Whether you are gay, bi, or whatever.

I'm sorry, I just had to vent. I guess it's ignorance or lack of education for some people...
