I thought I'd share this photo of a squirrel that got into the warehouse at work today, and made itself comfortable in a box of girls school blouses. One of the ladies named him Cyril...

He looks so comfortable there. We had to put it outside though. We took the whole box outside then carefully tipped him out.

This is where camera phones are useful!

Although cute, you should never try to take a wild animal and make it into a pet. This coming from the granddaughter of a family who had a pet bear, raccoon, and a deer growing up. No kidding. In fact, we nursed an owl back to health in our barn after it had been accidentally shot in the wing. My brother and I took him raw hamburger everyday until he was well enough to fly away.

  9. Also, jayden, squirrels are mammals and they can carry rabies and other parasites. And yes, squirrels can and will bite somebody.

I'm sure Cyril was trying to hide until he could escape. Thank You for letting him back out.

Yes, squirrels do bite, and can cause quite serious injuries.

Squirrels in the UK are considered to be vermin and pests. If an injured squirrel is taken to an animal welfare charity or whatever, they are not allowed to release it back into the wild once treated so they are often put to sleep instead.

No rabies in the UK though.

It's a Sony Ericsson K750i, and the photo was resampled to about 40%.

That's what we thought too, but he came back in again a bit later. We found him underneath a pallet near the door. This was with the door and windows shut, so he obviously has a way in and out. It's a converted barn with plenty of gaps that would be big enough for a squirrel to get through.

So as long as he doesn't cause any damage (by chewing the stock or fixtures) he can come and go as he pleases. Of course he maybe a she - we didn't look that closely!

Maybe he is trying to escape a predator.

I hope Cyril isn't female, Cyril is far too good a name for a squirrel.

Anyhoo, that's cute! We've got a hedgehog that plods through our garden every now and again. Our dog goes out to bark at it, bless her. She'd never bite, or anything. She sniffed it once and ended up with a sore nose.

Sad news - Cyril is dead. :tears:

The last two people to leave on Friday (one of whom was the lady that named him) found him on the ground in the yard. He had been run over, most likely by one of the farm vehicles as he was near the barn they are stored in.

They put his body in the long grass at the edge of a field.

We now think he was probably unwell and was looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful to hide away. If this was the case then at least the end was quick.
