    Yay for nerd time.

So, Titanic is like a religion for me, and today is Easter (would that actually fit?). Today, April 14th, (ending on the 15th), the Titanic began to sink.

And how good looking was this ship?

    Including:
The richest man in the world (John Jacob Astor)

President Taft's Best Friend (Col. Archibald Butt)

Makes you realize how precious life really, doesn't it?

Was it a tragedy? Yes. But life being precious? Don't think so. With 6bn people, it doesn't seem life is all that particular.

    Dudeeee, pessimism.

Would you see it as being precious if I congratulated you on beating the millions of other sperm to the egg? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It's the only race I have ever won.

On topic, I had no idea it was the Titanic's anniversary. I thought Channel 4 usually played the movie each year to mark the occasion, but I haven't seen it advertised anywhere.

How did I not realize this? I used to have the date of the sinking and the times of all the important events memorized. Back when I was like 8 or 9 I became completely obsessed with Titanic, and I still probably have a dozen different books about it back at home.

It would have been incredible to see the ship in person.

omg i love titanic i used to know everything about it, i have tons of books on it and i found this really interesting documentary on it you guys might find interesting!

(link to stolen content removed by moderator)

The videos a documentary on how there might have been some conspiracy behind the Titanic, basically they believe that the R.M.S. switched the Titanic with her sister ship the Olympic, the reason being because of damages that happened to the Olympic the R.M.S. could no longer use the ship so they made it look like the titanic and switched ships.

the plan was originally to sink the ship on purpose so they could claim the insurance on it. they had planed to fake a crash at a different location where they had a ship waiting to rescue them, but the ship accidentally hit a black ice berg on route to the planed crash location.

i uploaded the video to the link above it's 94 MB and about 47 min long
or you can watch a 8 min clip from it on You tube

Oh my gosh, I am so glad that I've found fellow Titaniacs (Titanic maniacs) on this forum!!!! I have been fascinated with everything Titanic since I was about 6, and that was a few years before the movie came out. I have so many books about that ship, it's ridiculous. I've also got a ton of memorabilia from the movie as well, which I cherish with all my heart. I've got a Titanic poster that I've had since the movie came out and it has always hung on the wall in my various rooms over the years (I've moved around a lot). I remember when the movie came out, I thought "OMG, is this really happening?!" I just couldn't believe my luck. Here I was, an eight year old child nerdily obsessed with a disaster that took place some 80 years earlier and out of the blue this brilliant director makes a movie about it. I was like (!) LOL. To this day, it's my all-time favourite film and my friends and family are well aware of this. I am definitely teased for it haha. I don't care though, Titanic (the movie, the disaster, etc.) is one of the loves of my life. If I could have become a Titanic historian for a living, I think I would've.

It's very hard to believe that it's now been 98 years since the sinking. That's almost a century ago, blimey! RIP to all of the victims of that fateful night.
