A little ode

A mellow green husk
Hides a passionate pink heart
That holds a crisp flavor
That is sweet, but delights to be savored.
Your humble origins crawling in dirt
Betray your wonders and hidden worth.
From a little black seed
Into a twisting vine
You sprang forth for harvest
And now the pleasure is mine.
In the cold you wait
So patient and benign
But I will not be fooled,
For when it is time
I’ll be there to release you.
And I will not forget
The joy that you bring.
And when that hour comes,
We two will join
My heart will be filled
(Almost as much as my stomach)
And Watermelon; we will never be parted
It is the end of spring,
And your season has officially started.
