    Wait, you watched Fox News?

    You poor sap.

Seriously, I can't envision any reason that anyone with two functional brain-cells would have to watch that biased, bigoted, unsubstantiated crap. Republicans, as an idealogical group, are offensive to me in many regards, so I'm not surprised that you were disgusted. They tend to be disgusting people.

Fox is very republican swayed. President Bush is a member of the Republican party, and well... he is sorta dragging em down (in my opinion). So to recap... Fox... Biased as hell. Bush Bad. The Republicans are also known to be Anti-Gay.... well except for the VP. His daughter is Lesbian.

Interestingly enough Dave, both parties are pretty much controlled by the extreme wings of the groups. What is complained about is how now that basically the Neo-con Republicans seem to hold sway in the White House, thus most of the top slots of all the Departments, all is viewed with doom and gloom concerning the party. The same is with the Democratic Party, is viewed as bad because it is under the control of the extreme left wing of the party. What most fail to understand, painting all Republicans and all Democrats with a broad brush as far as ideology is concerned is a injustice to the majority of the party members of either party, which are more middle of the road. It keeps the partisan fires fanned and actually accomplishes nothing.

It is an unfortunate thing that the large money contributors to either party are basically in the extreme camps of either. Where the money is unfortunately is where the voice will be heard, even against a majority.

In reality not all Republicans are so conservative that they are anti-gay or want to take any public assistance away from everyone, as with Democrats are not all screaming liberals that will take your money away and give it to someone else or agree with so much of anything that they don't stand for anything.

Until the middle of each party can wrest control from the fringes within each, the on going ping-pong match will continue.

    Hope that explains.

Paul said it best about Fox News. Rupert Murdock is a very crazy Republican type, and because he owns the Fox empire, he basically tells them what to air. There's actually a great documentary called "Outfoxed" that's worth watching. It basically demonstrates how Fox News' slogan of "Fair and Balanced" is a flat-out lie. During the Clinton administration, Fox News was a watchdog channel, airing everything that might remotely be anything resembling dishonesty from the Clinton White House. With Bush as president, Fox News has become a mouthpiece for the Administration and all things Republican.

I would also take a moment to disagree somewhat with JayHew's assessment of U.S. politics, as well. This country has been skewing pretty far right for ages now, with the only bright spot in there being Bill Clinton's presidency (which was effectively negated by a Republican congress for his last four years), and the Democratic party has been pandering to the weak-at-heart no opinion on anything "middle of the road" Americans in an attempt to avoid seeming "too extreme." Even now, the Democratic front-runners for president are trying to play to the middle. The trouble is, the Republicans have the support of and have to support their loyal base of crazy religious conservatives, so the Republican party is skewing far more toward the conservative extreme.

Personally, I'm one very very short step away from being a socialist, so I'm mostly dissatisfied with the field of candidates for U.S. President right now. On one side, you have a bunch of crazy nutjobs that I wouldn't trust to watch my dog while I was out of town, and on the other, you have a mixed bag. A couple of the Democrats are really good candidates (Mike Gravel and Barack Obama). Most of them are milquetoast.

Well, all things considered I am closest to being a libertarian, so Ron Paul (who happens to be a republican) is one of my more favored candidates. While I don't agree with a few of his beliefs (ie: getting rid of the federal reserve), his stance on things such as the fair tax, the war, and others make him an appealing candidate. To me honestly, there isn't a realistic candidate in either party for gay rights, because when it comes right down to it I don't really think Hillary or Barak would do a thing unless it was presented to them, which it won't be any time soon because congress feels it has more important things to do. But yes, one of my favorite candidates is a republican -gasp-. I prefer to look beyond party boundaries though because many of my other favorites are democrats.

Oh god don't get me started on Fox News....

Do NOT watch that rubbish. It's probably the most biased and unreliable news source in the world... everything that's on that channel is what Murdoch tells them to put on, and all that is biased Republican crap.

Watch the documentary 'Outfoxed' if you don't understand why it's so bad. You'll see...

Bah! Even talking about the G.O.P. makes me sick to my stomach. Social conservatism has nearly always failed in the past, and these idgits who are "patriotic" and "defending America's freedom" are doing nothing more than hindering lucrative stem-cell programs and keeping the LGBT community out of the wedding chapel.

ROFL! So true. I watched a talk he had with Richard Dawkins... and a few months afterward, when talking about creationism, he claimed to have "won the debate" with Dawkins when talking to a fellow theist, even though there was no debate in the first place, and Dawkins made him look like a fool (unbeknownst to O'Reilly, apparently).
