Canada experienced it's first earthquake in 300 years at a magnitude of 5.5 which is notable. It was felt in Ontario, mainly in Toronto, but Mississauga and Ottawa felt it as well as did Montreal and parts of Western New York.

What did you think when you felt it?

    *looks at calendar* Um...

    :icon_wink :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Only teasing of course ^_^

Obviously nowhere near Canada, but I heard about it =/ I've only experienced a minor earthquake before (I was sleeping and was only awake for a few seconds of it, of course xD). But I feel bad for anyone who might have had some horrid experiences with this one =(

I've heard people (on other forums) from Ohio, Michigan and Quebec as well as Ontario report that they've felt it.

I live about 30 miles south of Lake Erie, and I felt it, obviously not the quake in it's entirety but it was enough to shake the lights, plates/cups/etc, and my desk so I was very confused.

I have a friend that lives in New Philadelphia Ohio who felt it, that's farther south. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

First in 300 years? On CNN they said that area is common with earthquakes and it was even right where they predicted it would be, if one happened. :/

They have earthquakes every year, but they are hardly ever noticeable to anyone but researchers with equipment to measure them.

I felt it, MY SCHOOL SHOOK. It was kind of awesome.
Yeah, we have earthquakes every time we get a really hot summer, but they're never big enough to actually feel. This one SHOOK MY SCHOOL. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yeah, there is a small fault line going through Lake Erie and a few other smaller ones up in Ontario and Quebec, but they never produce strong earthquakes. The strongest one in recent years besides this one was one in Lake Erie near the coast of Ohio and that was a few years ago, and it barely moved anything. The worst damage would probably be a glass already about to fall over falling over and chipping.

Apparently the building I work in is built like a tank. Vermont/NY border, and not even a tremble. We all kinda sat there wondering if the news was a joke.

Yep, several of my colleagues here in Metro Detroit felt it. I was on my feet walking, so I didn't notice it.

I felt it  it was my first one in like 9 years that I felt. I was at my desk watching something on my laptop when the floor started to shake and my screen was vibrating, and the windows were rattling. I jumped up just as it stopped.

    *decent sized* earthquakes.

Decent size would be around 4.5+

We were writing our exams- wondering why someone was shaking their foot so strongly... until we finally realized what it was.

    1) "first in 300 years" It's what I heard on the radio so don't shoot the messenger and obviously I mean, as Lady Gaga put it, DECENT sized earthquakes....if anything it's the first level 5 earthquake in 300 years because everywhere in the world can get earthquakes but I'm talking 'bout the ones we feel!

It was so trippy- Ontario is not earthquake country!!!
