Umm...hair styles?

Yeah I wasn't overly sure where to put this - I am trying to change up things and wanted to start with my hair - It's thick and coarse and it just kinda turns into an afro once it gets too long and I can't do anything with it. It won't grow out like normal hair, at least not from what I've seen - I want to do something different than usual which is just to cut it as short as possible and then leave it alone - but I don't know what????
