Well i have come to realize that regarding furry-ness, there is a lot i like about it, but i wouldn't be a furry myself, i would be considered neko which if you know about furries you should know what it is. but my question is would i still be considered part of the furry community, even though i don't exactly fit the qualifications of it, or would i be considered something else? also are there others like me here on EC besides just me? if so i would like to know you and i wouldnt feel so alone in my plight  also, sorry about the spacingz typing this on my phone so yeah

I know a couple furries, although I'd never don a suit myself. But I've helped out at a convention, for instance. Am I part of community? Not really sure. I don't consider myself as such. But my friends just call me "furry-friendly", and I think that works fine.

Without going into a lot of detail, a "furry" is a person who is a fan of anthropomorphic animals. This can take a bunch of forms - from creating an online "furry persona" (usually shortened to "fursona") to actually building and wearing a fursuit. Generally the suit is only worn to conventions and other furry get-togethers.

I find the furry community very interesting, even if I'm not a part of it. Mainly because there tends to be a heavy element of "yeah, this is kinda weird, but who cares - we love doing it" around it. And I'm always in favor of that.

Can someone describe 'Furriness' in depth for me?
I have a couple of friends who identify, but I don't completely understand...
    Help?

Having been "fur-adjacent" at various points, my understanding of it is that furries are, at a base level, fans of anthropomorphised animals, with the classic example being the characters in Disney's "Robin Hood". Beyond that, there are levels where the person feels they have a sort of "inner animal", and their fursona is a sort of animal form". At any level, they'll have a fursona, which is sort of the manifestation of their inner animal.

And yeah, there are people with means that make or have made fursuits that they'll wear usually only for special events (as one guy I know who had a professional suit made spent well over $2,000 on his). That's mostly a luxury thing, though, as the suits are hot, hard to clean, and prohibitively expensive for most, not to mention that the suits are by no means essential to being a furry.

The wiki article is actually worth a read on this one.

Everyone explaining the furry phenomenon has somehow neglected to mention it's infamous porn.

There's a great majority to it than just porn IsItSo, I respect your opinion, but there's is a great majority of artwork that is nowhere near porn.

I realized that what I said could have been taken the wrong way. Porn is definitely a part of the furry movement, but doesn't represent it as a whole. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not my thing.

No, that's just what 90 percent of people focus on. The other 10 percent are furries.
