Default GSA. Is it worth it?

My current community college has a GSA set up and I was looking forward to joining, but I just found out that it is pretty much dead. There goes my plans on meeting more gay people >.>

Here is the thing. I've been thinking of finding someone in my college and, with their help, try to make a serious GSA. I mean, there HAS to be someone else out there that wants an GSA, right?

I have no idea really. I have never been a member of an GSA because I was in the closet during high school so I really have no idea what it really is all about.

My question is, would you join the GSA at your school if it had one? What are your thoughts about it all?

Any input would help

Default Re: GSA. Is it worth it?

Hi there! Well, I was a member of a LGBT club during my uni years and it was definitely a good decision to join. It helped me to get to know people (including one of my best friends) and to become more comfortable.

In terms of what it was about, it helped to create a safe space for LGBT students on campus, and creating connections between LGBT students. The club advocated on behalf of LGBT students.

We had regular meetings, where we talked about what kind of events we wanted to put on, and what needed to be done throughout the term. The LGBT group also sponsored talks, and had weekly discussion groups on LGBT topics. We also had regular social events in town open to everyone.

Being part of a LGBT group can be fun. So yeah, if you wanted to try to get it up and running again, go for it!
