There was an article on afterelton.com today about "The Riddle" from an episode of 'All in the Family'. Here's the riddle:

I had heard this riddle before so it only took me a second to remember the answer, but back when the show aired people really struggled with it. Of course, the answer is that the surgeon was the boy's mom.

But ABC decided to test the riddle on kids today to see if they could figure it out better than older generations. (I tried to embed the video but couldn't get it to work. Here's a link)

The fact that they came up with the possibility of the boy having two dads completely blew me away. More proof that the younger generations, even little kids, don't really care if people are gay or straight.

It's funny how smart some kids are, and yet older people can sometimes be more ignorant. I liked the vid.

    I love this.
But it just proved to myself how sexist my brain is because of society's stereotypes.

lol. i thought of the gay option - not the mom option. which i guess is rather sexist. but it wasnt meant that way

aahh. i tested it on my mom. she went away and tought about it for an hour, before begging for the answer

I thought the father in the story was a priest. I guess I've listened to too many homilies.

It's funny because so many of the older generation say "knowledge is wasted on the youth of today because of all this technology" but after seeing this video, it just made me smile. Just makes me hopeful of the future.

No it's saying OUR generation and generations before us are sexist. It's saying the next generation aren't or aren't going to be bigoted either because as you saw, many of them either answered that it was the mother OR two dads.

Maybe because I have turned off my brian for the week.

That riddle confused the hell out of me. My answer was a surgeon, who the hell else would be preforming surgery. It never occurred to me that it was asking the relationship to the boy.

I'm not sure if this is great for gay's or bad for women...? I actually thought it was the mom at first, does that make me a bad gay?
