In light of the recent stories of suicide in the glbt community i thought it would be cool if we had a thread about how things do get better, i was quite shocked to hear that there have bin about 5 suicides in the last month and several glbt people on youtube have made moving passionate videos and ellen degeneras has spoken out about bullying.i count myself fortunate that i have never been bullied over my sexuality, but i know what it was like to be the fat kid that never felt like he fit in, but now i'm 18, i'm at a good university doing a biomedical degree, i have an awesome boyfriend and a supportive family and although i am still not 100% happy with my body i know how great it is to be loved unconditionally, things do get better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CywCOvCXWk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLB05iFgL1w
This thread reminds me of the recently made YouTube channel, It Gets Better. http://www.youtube.com/user/itgetsbetterproject Although I am still young, I can definitely say it DOES get better. It's a shame those kids committed suicide.
It Gets Better is a wonderful project started by Dan Savage. You can all make a video and post it encouraging others to hang in there that life DOES get better! My son has been in a happy committed relationship for several years. They bought a house together. They have a dog (who chews up everything!) and a cat. They are planning on adopting children someday. Both of them have great jobs. They just took a Carribean cruise together! Life really does get better! All these suicides have deeply disturbed me. We all need to do our part to stop bullying. Make sure that if you see someone being bullied at school that you tell somebody and stand up for them!
