Hi everyone! I'm currently looking for my first ever dildo, and was wondering if anyone had any tips (i.e. a good website, a specific product etc).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you already started playing with that area? Sometimes people invest in a dildo and it ends up being too much for them and they set it away. Have you looked into maybe getting a set of anal beads (the ones that are small and get bigger?) They can be fun! I can't help you with the dildo thing as I don't know where you woudl go here in the US. I was able to go to a shop in my town in Spain and buy this massive dildo (that I obviously couldn't bring here to the US).

Just to remind anyone who replies , I'm afraid you can't mention any websites selling sex toys by name here, as we have quite a few younger members. Sorry!

If you're still living at home or with quite a few other people, I'd recommend, when investigating a site, looking at how discreet their packaging is. There are many websites that are really good about this, and give you a big long description about how your package will look when it's delivered, to assure privacy. Oh, and be sure to read customer reviews.

Now, I'm no professional sex toy reviewer, but I have a healthy collection and I have read more than entirely necessary about sex toys. I'll assume that you intend to use it anally so I'll tailor my advice accordingly.

So here's my quick* tip list for purchasing your very first dildo:

    1. Invest in high quality products. This means ensuring that your dildo is made from bodysafe materials that are preferrably sterilizable. Examples of good materials are silicone, glass, metal, TPR plastic and TPE (Thermo-Plastic Elastomer)/Elastomer (although that last two are porous and cannot be disinfected). You want to look for toys that have labels such as pthalate-free. Avoid jelly toys; they are full of toxic chemicals. You will need to make an investment, but good materials won't make you sick and they last forever!

    2. Purchase from a trustworthy sex-positive websites/stores. You want to be sure you will get your toy in a timely manner and discretely.(I can't link here due to forum rules, but if you PM me when you get Full Member status, I'll share some websites that are well-known for having good business practices.)

    3. Purchase from reputable toy companies. You want to support good quality toys. Here are some examples of toy manufacturers:
Tantus, Vixen Creations, Vamp Silicone, Fun Factory, Njoy, Jollies, Crystal Delights, Whipspider and Nobessence.

    4. Know what you want to do with your toy. Do you want something for thrusting? Do you want a buttplug type toy? More prostate stimulation? Do you want nubs for stimulation? Swirls? Or would you prefer something smooth? How about length and girth? Our eyes are often larger than our assholes, so I'd suggest something on the smaller side. But all those questions will help your choose the right toy for you.

    5. Choose a toy with a wider base or something to stop you from fully inserting the toy. This is very, very important. Hands get slippery when lubed up and you can lose your grip. This is to prevent your toy for getting 'lost' inside of you and sending on you an embarrassing trip to the emergency room. I've attached a picture of a toy as an example of what the base should look like.

    6. Read reviews before purchasing. There are tons of sex toy reviewers out there and they can give you a good idea of what toys are great and worth the money and which ones fall flat. (I can give you some good examples of reviewers if you PM me.)

    7. And finally? Choose something you want. Be it pretty in colour or an interesting shape. There is something out there for everyone!

    (!)
*That wasn't as quick as I thought it would be.
Also, feel free to edit my post, Mods. I chose a very generic looking dildo that doesn't look like genitalia so as to prevent offending anyone, but if that is still too explicit, go ahead and snip away. Ditto for listing the reputable companies. I didn't include links or anything and none of those pages display porn. And I think it is important to include accurate information about the topic instead of pandering to the crazy fundamentalist parents who think our kids should remain uneducated about safety. But do what you will.

I just wanted to comment that, in my opinion, Numfarh's post is probably one of the most balanced and helpful articles on sex toys I've seen anywhere... while also maintaining appropriate decorum with regard to our younger members. Perhaps at some point it could/should be expanded into an article and put in the resource section.

    Aw. Thanks, Chip.
I'd be perfectly happy to write up something like a beginner's guide to purchasing good sex toys. There's a bunch of stuff to consider and with all the choices out there, it can get really confusing really fast.

    I'm just happy to help.

Damn, someone knows their sex toys! haha! Usually if you find a store (you have to be 18 in the US, I'm told) the people there are happy to demonstrate how the things should work (not in a perverse way, like they don't actually use it on themselves) and they are very good at giving advice on what is good and what isn't!
