My company's having a formal holiday party in a few weeks. Women = dresses. Men = jacket and tie. I don't do dresses, and I'm stumped as to what to wear. I think I need to find something in between. But I'm not sure what that is.

Part of me actually wants to wear a jacket and tie. But a) I would be totally nervous, and b) I'm a 4'11" female, where am I going to find a guys suit/jacket/tie that fits?

I'm thinking maybe trying XL in boys (kids) sizes. But not sure if that will work. Might be a long shot, but, any suggestions as to what an 'in between' formal outfit might be, or even where to find a jacket/tie outfit for a (small) woman?

try a used tux/clothing store. you might find something there jacket/tie worthy. or you could wear one of those dresses with built-in shorts?

You don't need to wear a dress to a formal function. There ARE suits for women out there.

Go to your local department store and there will be a Petite section in the women's apparel area which will cater directly for you.

I agree with what has already been said, and as a girl that doesnt really do dresses either I can sympathise. I have usually ended up wearing a dress in the past to the actual formal balls and functions I have been to, but any other times such as when I have been a guest at a wedding or something I have gone for a trouser suit, so I think that would be best.
