The scariest part about this is that it is not from The Onion.

This makes me laugh. Watching the government run is like watching a sitcom.

messing up the definition is certainly not going to help encourage the victims to report it.

Just going to end up with more quiet backroom "Are you sure you don't just regret something that happened in the heat of the moment, honey?" conversations in homes and police stations.

I'm wondering: if its proponents can call it the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act", can't the opponents start calling it the "Statutory rape approval act"?

I might also be mistaken, but... is abortion funded by tax money at all? I was under the impression that it wasn't, and that this is just a big smokescreen to show people they're doing things while in reality nothing is changing. Like the previous "repeal" of the healthcare bill.

Regardless, asking people to fund their own abortion tends to lead to the rich getting safe abortions, and the poor using clothes hangers, if experience from my own country counts (though luckily that time is long past).
I'm not a fan of abortion and I'd rather see none performed at all, but if anything should be done, it should be expandig the options post-birth, not restricting those pre-birth.

  10. And my ever increasing need to move to a different country ramps up another notch or two. Hello New Zealand, I like you, you like me, why don't we get together?

Seriously though, who thinks that redefining rape is a good use of our time and taxpayer's dollars. Our government needs a good smack I think.

I suppose I'm mostly pro-life, although abortion has never really been my thing. Some people have different political passions, this just happens not to be one of mine.

But, the question that begs to be asked is "is there any other kind of rape OTHER than forced rape?"

I thought the entire concept behind rape was the fact that someone was forcing someone else to engage in intercourse....I suppose i was wrong.

They may as well just call this the "C'mon, She Totally Wanted It" law.

  16. I almost laughed at this, Lex. And then realized how horrible it is that you are totally right.

BUT in response to Lexington: There is Statutory Rape, which I think shouldn't be called that. It's consensual but illegal nevertheless, for reasons that are mostly good, but still debatable.

Even without redefining rape, they shouldn't be restricting taxpayer funding to abortion if it's medically necissary. Ok so some people don't agree with it, but some people don't agree with the death penalty or faith-based initiatives in schools. Their taxes still pay for them, so why not abortion?

I simply can't believe that this is the kind of crap we pay them to do... like the whole gay marriage thing. Why do they get to waste time and money on these things???
