So everyone uses certain names for their mother and father, like mom, mum, dad, daddy, whatever... right? Except not me... I have no names for them. I never have, since I was born. Like, when I talk to them, I just look at them and start talking. I don't call them anything. I've never heard of anyone else like this. My brother is normal this way. So is there anyone else out there like this? Am I just really weird? Maybe something strange is wrong with me.
I dont think its that weird. I actually call my grandma "mommy" because thats what my cousins and bro did too. We just all got used to it I guess. xD
I always do that with people I don't have a 'nickname' for. I always feel uncomfortable saying their name if I am talking to them directly, so I'll just talk at them like you do. If I have some sort of nickname for them then I have no problem. But I'm fine saying their name if I'm referring to them while talking to someone else. It's strange. For my parents I've got several nicknames that I use... but for everyone else it's either a nickname or nothing.
I call my mom Margaret or Ma if I'm lazy. Sometimes it's Mum. My father is Dad or Papa or Pop or Bob. Truly depends on my mood.
As far "strange" things go, that seems pretty normal. My grandfather (God rest his soul) wanted to be called Pops, most older people hate that, but he loved it. I don't think its odd at all.
Pops and Mom. Ma if I feel like getting on her nerves. I give almost everybody I regularly talk to nicknames, so I rarely use actual names unless I am talking about that person to someone who doesn't know my nicknames for them.
My mother: Ma, "Hey, Ma", or "Mother" My father: I don't really talk to him much (he's not really in my life), but whenever I do, it's "deadie" My younger sister calls my mother by her first name. IDK why, though.
Mama and Dada always in my case. I wouldn't worry too much, if anything, it's not you it's them. It's the kind of thing you could only pick up from them at a young age, if it wasn't something that interested them, that's kust how things were.
Usually just Mum or Dad for me, although I call them by their actual names if they annoy me or we get into a silly argument.
I call my mom "Ma" and my stepfather "Dirtbag" (but not to his face, we don't speak directly to one another.)
Dad is Dad, step-parents by their names, the only thing that people find weird is that I use "Mom" to refer to my mother instead of "Mum". It may not seem strange to American folk but apparently it's out of place in England. My lecturers kept marking me down for using "mom" instead of "mum" in my creative writing coursework.
