http://www.katu.com/news/national/10925771.html This grieving father took Fred Phelps and his clan to court and won $11 million! Good for him!!!!
 :eusa_danc Yay! I heard about this on the six o'clock news.:eusa_danc  DOWN WITH THE WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH! Those inbred nuts!
That's awesome, hope the decision sticks and the Idiot Westboro Church has to file for Bankrupcy...then again they will probably say it was the fault of "the homosexuals taking over America" and such....silly ppl
I'll be curious what actually comes out of this case. I'm kind of doubtful that this will actually stop them from protesting in Maryland.
I doubt the verdict will stop them from protesting in any state. But a 10.9 million dollar fine for their method of protesting is sure to make them think twice before they do it again.
Heh, I actually came to EC to post this. Interesting verdict. I expect that the Phelps and his ilk will appeal this one as far as they can, but I really hope it stick. If the state takes Phelps' church to help pay the fine, there's a schadenfreude-filled part of my heart that hopes someone buys it and converts it into a gay bar.
I certainly hope they are held accountable - and that this isn't some kind of hollow verdict that nobody enforces... And the gay bar idea isn't a bad one!
Of course, Freddy Phelps and his clan are planning to appeal. Scary thing is, we're in the United States of America. Which means that I'm damn near certain that those asshat bastards will manage to get the verdict overturned. Why? Because America LOVES its hate speech. Why else do you think the Ku Klux Klan and so many other hate groups can still exist in this country? Personally, I hope whatever judge hears the appeal not only holds the verdict, but also locks the Westboro SOBs in prison forever. But, being a resident of the United States has shown me that this country can pull disappointment from the jaws of victory.
Well, I'm hoping the appeal is thrown out of court, and such things. After all, it's an outstanding victory for common sense. The reason I don't think this'll be overturned, personally, is because Fred Phelps is an enemy of the US army. If he'd been targeting the funerals of gay men, then hell, Fred Phelps would probably successfully countersue, but with it being the funeral of a soldier, I don't think the US can afford the bad image of someone getting away with doing that at an army funeral. After all, just imagine what this result will do for morale in the US army, knowing that the bastards doing this at the funerals of their comrades and brothers-in-arms are not getting away with it.
