BBC News - Al-Qaeda leader Bin Laden 'dead'

Al-Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden is dead, according to US media reports citing officials.

The US is in possession of Bin Laden's body, the reports say. President Barack Obama is due to make a statement shortly.

Mr Bin Laden is top of the US most wanted list.

He is accused of being behind a number of atrocities, including the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001.

Good riddance! I still rmbr 9-11 like yesterday. Everybody was running to the school windows and saw the nyc skyline filling with black smoke. I still remember my teachers running around frantically crying and when the towers collapsed, most of the tv broadcast went out with it. So all we had were 2/3 news stations and the radio. I'm glad this man is dead. May he burn in hell!

my first thought when around 10:10pm eastern time when cnn anncounced the statement from obama was this, then I solidly told myself that it cant be possible. I switched to msnbc, and a guy had a memo, and while he was talking about what it said, he was told he was not allowed to. he chocked up as he was saying it before saying he was just told to stay silent... I told myself it had to be bin laden... i again told myself stop being stupid, it isent happening...

then i flipped to fox just as giraldo announced bin laden was dead, and switched back to cnn.
