Taking this with the standard "journalists overblowing science results" grain of salt, but still very promising: Link ---------- Post added 16th May 2011 at 12:42 AM ---------- For those wondering about how it would be a good idea to infect someone with HIV with a form of Herpes, here's how the vaccine in the article works. A virus cell is, put in very simple terms, two systems: a delivery system for DNA, and the DNA itself. Usually, a virus attacks a cell and injects it's DNA into it (delivery system). The DNA then does its thing, which is to use the cell to make more virus cells. What the vaccine has done, is take the delivery system of the herpes relative virus and replace the DNA it is delivering with that of the vaccine. And, because herpes can never go away, the vaccine never goes away.
Hmmm it's intriguing though for now all I can say is, let's hope. The unfortunate thing is that It would namely only help those with HIV, not AIDS, and it would also not restore white blood cells that have been destroyed by the virus. But again, if it clears them of HIV completely...that's definitely a positive.
They also believe that Stem Cell Research helps cure AIDS as well. this guy had leukemia along with HIV, and to treat the leukemia, they were doing a stem cell transplant for him, and his HIV disappeared. now they're running more test to see if it really does work or not. i hope they do find a cure!
